Join the latest trend of clothes swapping this Thursday, May 5 from 6-10 PM at .paaka .

A clothes swap is an event where you swap your clothes with friends and other people. It’s all about making fashion sustainable affordable and alternative.

Why Clothes Swapping or Upcycling?

The Fashion Industry is the second most polluting industry in the world (after agriculture), creating 150 billion units of clothing each year. Globally, 2.5 billion pounds of clothing go to landfills each year (Global Fashion Exchange, 2018). A lot of clothes get disposed of even though there is nothing wrong with them.

Most of us have items in our wardrobe that are perfectly fine yet we don’t use, we still feel that we have nothing to wear. Clothes swapping is a way of conscious consumption which allows you to share resources, keep clothes out of landfills, and have a good time!

There are no strict rules:
1. Fill the invitation link.
2. On confirmation: Pay 500/- INR cover charge (it can be fully redeemed on F&B at the venue.)

2. Bring your own hangers, Display your clothes at the allocated space based on the sizes..

3. Go to the swap floor and view the available clothes, try them out, mingle, and enjoy.

4. Let's make sure your clothes find a good match, so help encourage others to try them and take them. The same person might not have anything to offer you. But the whole idea is to help everyone find something new from someone in a lovely community space. This event thrives on the principles of a sharing and a gift economy.

If you need a drink to break ice, it's a BYOB.

5. Left-over clothes can be donated.

We will also facilitate a small discussion about the trend of clothes swapping and upcycling globally, our ideas and prejudices about secondhand, and how to be a more sustainable consumer.

What to bring to the swap:
- Each person can bring a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 10 items.
- Clothes, but also shoes, bags, and accessories are welcome
- Socks, underwear, and lingerie are not..
- Make sure the clothes are clean, dry, and smell good.

Upcycling:
- Items that need repairs or worn-out or old can be brought to the Upcycling space to discuss ideas..

As we are moving towards new year gathering more hope and courage to enter into the second phase of Disha, we want to take this moment and look back at 2021 with no grief but only immense gratitude for all the people, who held our hands as a collective to sail through the darkest times.

We stay motivated and determined to continue Disha’s journey because as a collective, we realised, what will really help the human kind in the days to come - especially where we are being pushed into a world that’s normalising virtual classrooms, remote jobs, machine and artificial intelligence led societies - is the human to human interaction, a simple touch to heal our wounds and the spirit of a collective as ours.

We as a collective shall keep moving forward spreading more love and light.

Wishing you and your family a bright new year ! ❤️🌱

In recent times, we as enlightened urban consumers have made some progress by sourcing and eating ecologically grown food, but in terms of fulfilling our other basic needs such as clothing, we are causing damage to our bodies, grave environmental degradation and affecting lives of crores of people in farming and weaving sectors.

Disha Collective in collaboration with MG Gramodyog Sewa Santha invites you to be a part of the ongoing conversations for taking steps towards sustainable clothing & fashion.

We are gathering on September 27, Monday at Paaka Organic Cafe, Tellapur at 10 am where we will have Mr Arup Raksh*t and Mrs Ruby Raksh*t, cofounders of Mahatma Gandhi Gramodyog Sewa Santha (https://mggss.org/) and other friends practicing sustainable clothing for enabling the conversation.

Please do invite your friends who are interested in designing, selling and consuming sustainable clothing and fashion. We need the connections to happen!

The session will be followed by organic lunch and visit to Tellapur farm where we are starting a nature cure healing centre for local residents to access natural treatments for affordable prices.

Please register on arriving by paying Rs 200 which goes towards organising lunch and other logistics.

Thank you very much!

What permaculture was for the 70’s Agroecology is for the current times.

Deccan Development Society which pioneered permaculture in India by establishing the first permaculture farm in Pastapur, invited Bill Mollison and Robin Francis for the first Indian workshops on permaculture and published permaculture manual is now all set to begin an initiative in Agroecology, first one outside university.

Unlike permaculture, agroecology calls for a larger social movement that works with farmers and agriculture but most prominently includes consumers and their movements. That is the reason, Disha Collective's and its Beyond Organic (initiative connecting consumers with farmers) have a significant role to play in this initiative. The Center for Agroecology intends to run regular quarterly courses in the principles of agroecology. The course participants joining enrolling for August-October will spend 12-24 weekend days to learn a number of important principles and skills. These will include :

1. Principles and the importance of biodiversity of crops and seeds
2. Cropping methods and their relationship with nature and soil types
3. Unique ways of looking at weeds
4. What turns insects into pests?
5. Harvesting methods and principles
6. Grains and seeds
7. Raising vegetables and plant nurseries
8. Role of trees in agriculture
9. Unique indigenous cattle breed and their characters
10. Allied skills such as Pottery and Carpentry

ϖ Course starts from August 17 2019. For 24 weekend days (Saturday & Sunday) .
ϖ Tuition fee: Rs 12000. Includes Food & accommodation
(One can opt for 12 weekend days @ Rs 6000)
ϖ Last date for registration: July 27 2019
