I visited Sarah's Convent on 4 July, 2026 to understand the functioning, its facilities, and interact with the management for the authenticity of their request for financial support.
My first impression of the campus was satisfying. The premises are clean, and well maintained. The dining area was clean and hygienic.
I met Mr. Sunil Kumar, the Manager of the convent, who has been looking into fundraising, administration, and maintenance for nearly 12 years.
This Home started in Ongole in 2009, with 10 children with special needs. He spoke about Sister Agnes who started this home and is currently in the US. She visits the home once or twice a year. She also contributes to the maintenance of the place financially.
He gave me a detailed overview of the children's daily activities, their food habits, medical requirements, and the special care each child receives. He explained how children with special needs require continuous attention, making the home's monthly costs much higher.
The children have access to doctors, psychologists, and medical staff (49 people) who are available around the clock to attend to their health needs.
Mr. Sunil showed me photographs of the children, the campus, and their day-to-day activities. He also showed a PowerPoint presentation about their work. He also took me to the boys' floor, where I observed the ICU, Pharmacy, and rooms.
Mr. Sunil mentioned that their most important needs are medicines and diapers, as these constitute a major part of their monthly expenses (Including the staff salaries) which amounts to almost Rs. 9 Lakhs per month and Rs. 1 Crore annually.
Overall, after my visit I felt that the organization is well structured, professionally managed, and committed to the welfare of the children.
