Pustakaar

Pustakaar Mobile library for kids Pustakaar is a Mobile Library program.

The program currently works through schools that lack the infrastructure or means to have a library system. The students of these schools typically have no means to access books outside their standard curriculum either at school or at home. Pustakaar works through a network of volunteers who visit these targeted schools and provide the students an opportunity to borrow books every week. Pustakaar

volunteers also conduct a regular reading program where they read books to the students and play interactive games with the students to help develop their language skills and build their confidence.

1.We have an inventory of around 14,000 books. That’s 14,000 happy smiles, in our dictionary.

2.We have 10 schools, where our team of 20 volunteers have the privilege of making the world better, letter by letter, smile by smile.

3.Association with other NGOs (Teach For India, Basata Foundation) who have generously and beneficially incorporated Pustakaar, as a complementary program to their initiative.

4.Dedicated Libraries in 20 additional schools/orphanages, which brings 3000 children every week, into the world of learning.

What better way to celebrate the Children’s Day than let them dream BIG!

Students from Vikas Model School had a memorable day visiting the Microsoft office campus as part of the ongoing Giving Month. The employees (who signed yp to volunteer for this particular initiative) gave a campus tour to the children, giving inside pictures of what it is to work in Microsoft and how children can excel in academics to reach their dream jobs.

We have had a very active partnership with Teach For India, Hyderabad from many years now. Their fellows have been instrumental in spreading the joy of reading in their schools, taking our program to various schools in the Old City.
It is heartwarming to see when they take the lead to show their students the real value of books. One such lead taken this year by Harsh*ta who brought her students to our office. This is what she had to say about our books and the reading experience…
