The last fifteen years of working in the wonderfully vibrant city of Hyderabad have given me the incomparable joy of learning from two of the best teachers in existence: children and theatre. Children, as participants of the theatre workshops, have taught me not to let m

y past experiences and preconceptions limit the future. Growth, with children and theatre, is a process wherein ‘to struggle’ is the goal. For as said by Grotowski, theatre practitioner par excellence: “It is not knowing how to do things that is necessary, but not hesitating when faced with a challenge.” This courage is not easy to foster but through the theatre workshops I have witnessed many youngsters becoming empowered and fearless. It was to take a small step towards empowering the children of Hyderabad by enhancing exposure that inspired the idea of the Hyderabad Children’s Theatre Festival. Having been supported by the children of Hyderabad so warmly, I wanted to celebrate the theatre workshops by giving something back to the children of this beloved city.
