Bhumika Women’s Collective Bhumika Women’s Collective was started in Hyderabad in 1995 with a vision to promote violence-free lives for women. Bhumika started 24 hours Helpline in 2006.

Bhumika focuses on all women ’s issues including domestic violence. Vision: Promoting Violence Free Lives for Women in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Mission::Our focus is on Gender equality and Rights of women advocating a life of dignity and justice. Objectives of Bhumika Women ’s Collective:
To support women by providing counsel in health, legal and psychological issues
To support new methods of research towards understanding the various aspects of women´s issues
To recover feminist history, literature and art by supporting projects based on empirical research
To create a common forum for networking among academicians, activists and students from different fields by organizing discussions, seminars and workshops
To study trends in mass media in relation to women´s concerns by organizing film review discussions
To build up a documentation center as a resource facility in pursuance of the above objectives
To create awareness and educate women on their rights
To also undertake publication of occasional research papers and booklets.

An awareness session on the POSH Act and other forms of violence against women and children was conducted at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Shivrampally, Hyderabad on 30th January

Over 300 women and men employees across all cadres actively participated. The session was conducted in Telugu and Hindi, making it accessible and inclusive.

Ms. Satyavati set the tone by highlighting the importance of POSH awareness for NPA staff, followed by an in-depth session on the history and provisions of the POSH Act by the Bhumika team.

We are honoured that the Bhumika staff were felicitated by Director Shri Amit Garg, IPS, for their contribution towards building safer and more informed workplaces.

📍 **Legal Awareness Session at Arundhati Nagar**

Bhumika Women’s Collective successfully conducted an awareness training on **laws and social media safety** for Men at Arundhati Nagar, with active participation from basti residents and community members on 25th Jan 2026.

The session covered crucial topics such as **safe mobile phone use for children, social media misuse and legal consequences, POCSO Act, and penalties related to g***a cases**. The interaction was lively, with residents asking questions and sharing concerns from their everyday lives.

Community members appreciated that legal knowledge was brought directly to their basti, making information accessible, practical, and empowering. Many requested more such sessions in the future, highlighting the importance of continued legal awareness at the grassroots level.

Celebrating the strength, rights, and future of every girl child 💖
Yesterday, we observed National Girl Child Day with children at Bastis. Through songs, discussions, pledges, and awareness sessions, we spoke about girls’ education, health, nutrition, and legal rights.
Parents were sensitised about the importance of sending girls to school, the illegality of child marriage, and the need for iron- and calcium-rich nutrition for growing girls. The most beautiful moment was seeing the girls confidently pledge to continue their education and stand up for their rights.
When communities come together, change begins. Every girl deserves equal opportunities, dignity, and a future full of possibilities 🌸

🌟 Adolescents’ Convention | 18 January 2026 🌟

After continuous sustained work in 10 urban slums and educational institutions, Bhumika Women’s Collective organized an Adolescents’ Convention on 18th January 2026 at Montfort Social Institute, Ramanthapur, Hyderabad. The convention brought together 130+ adolescent girls and boys for a day of learning, sharing, and expression.

The event featured participatory activities, message-oriented plays, child development and empowerment songs, and group work, creating a safe and engaging space for adolescents to voice their thoughts and concerns. Key discussions focused on child rights, POCSO, early-age relationships, child marriage, mobile addiction and its consequences, substance abuse, alcoholism, and peer pressure. An interactive session was facilitated by Mr. Kabir, an external resource person, encouraging open dialogue and critical thinking among participants.

📚✨ Orientation for Social work students at Bhumika ✨📚

A group of nearly 20 students from Roda Mistry College of Social Work visited the Bhumika Women’s Collective office on 23rd January 2026 for an orientation session. The students were introduced to Bhumika’s vision, key interventions, and field-based approaches, with a special focus on addressing violence against women and children.

It was an engaging interaction, encouraging young social work professionals to understand ground realities, survivor-centred approaches, and community-based interventions. We appreciate the students’ enthusiasm and interest in gender justice and social change.

Since 2005, Bhumika Women’s Collective has been working with women and girls on issues related to violence and access to support.
While the nature of crimes has changed over time, awareness about violence and available support systems continues to remain limited. Social and cultural norms often discourage women and girls from speaking out, leading to many experiences going unreported.
Through its helpline, community awareness programmes, and support centres, Bhumika currently works across 10 urban slums, supporting women and girls to access information and assistance.
Addressing violence requires sustained efforts and collaboration between communities, civil society organisations, and government institutions.
