Dr Mamatha Raghuveer Achanta of Tharuni Foundation, spoke to Times of India about the issue of child marriage . "It is more in BCs and Lambadas of STs. We do not have a big population of OCs, Iyengar and Iyers in Telangana. In our field studies, we found child marriage is highest in the Lambada (ST) community. We also found it high in certain BC communities, such as Perika and Budaga Jangalu. The recent trend is an increase in SCs. Earlier, districts like Adilabad, Warangal and Nizamabad reported high numbers."

The Power of Resilience Born into a family of migrant laborers, she faced trauma at a young age. But her journey didn’t end there. With the support of her mother and the care of Tharuni’s Swavlambana Rehabilitation & Skill Centre, she turned her pain into purpose.

A New Chapter Begins
Through the center, she received:
Trauma counseling to heal her heart
Vocational training in tailoring, fashion design, and embroidery
Empowerment through education, completing her 10th-grade studies

We are incredibly proud to announce the official inauguration of the Tharuni Swalambana Skill Academy for Survivors of Violence, which opened its doors on April 2nd!

At Tharuni, we believe that every survivor deserves a chance at a bright, independent future. Our new academy is dedicated to providing practical skills, a safe environment, and pathways to employment for young women aged 15-25 who are survivors of violent crimes (including POCSO, Child Marriage, and Domestic Violence).

To ensure nothing stands in the way of learning, this 6-month program comes with NO COURSE FEES. We provide 100% Free Food, Accommodation, and Training for all enrolled students!
