The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the Earth Charter and the Social Teachings form the basic framework of the task of MSI. The Institute uses these instruments to create a culture of respect and dignity for all persons, and the earth. The Institute is an Affiliate and a resource center of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel, a Society engaged in education and community development

all over India for well over a century. Montfort Social Institute is also an Affiliate of The Earth Charter Initiative. A special focus of MSI is children and youth, for we believe that even more than our past, it is the future generations that hold the promise of change in the world. Hence, our young ought to have access to and possibilities for acquiring knowledge, skills and development of attitudes that can usher in respect for the dignity and rights of all, and the whole community of life. The Institute engages in issues of protection of human rights, sustainable development and governance, through grass root activism, advocacy for policy reform, and education for transformation.

*Financial Inclusion for Transgenders* 🤝

Montfort Social Institute (MSI), Hyderabad, recently hosted a Financial Literacy Programme with 110 members of the transgender community.

The session focused on financial inclusion, credit facilities, insurance, digital banking, and cyber safety, along with discussions of the financial challenges faced by the community.

The session brought together Shri M G Suprabhat, GM, RBI; Shri A V Rao, GM, IRDA; Shri G K Murthy, AGM, SBI, representing the State Level Bankers Committee; Shri Srinivas Venna, Manager, RBI; Shri B L Rayudu, Assistant Manager, RBI and Ms. Preeti Sunanda, TG Coordinator, Government of Telangana, who shared valuable insights with the participants.

Bro. Varghese Theckanath S.G., Director, MSI, and Ms. Vasavi, MSI TG Coordinator, facilitated the programme, with Ms. Mukunda Mala and community leaders also sharing their experiences.

Montfort Social Institute (MSI), in collaboration with IRYS.ai, successfully hosted a Practical Demonstration and Hands-on Workshop on AI for Policy Research, Legal Drafting, and Evidence-Based Advocacy.

The workshop brought together 55 participants from NGOs, civil society organisations, advocacy groups, legal aid teams, think tanks, development organisations, and academia to explore how AI can strengthen policy research, legal drafting, documentation, and evidence-based advocacy through practical demonstrations and hands-on learning.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Devansh, Co-Founder & Head of AI, and Daanish, Managing Director – India, IRYS.ai, for leading the sessions, and to all the participants whose enthusiasm and active engagement made the workshop a resounding success.

Together, we continue to build capacity, foster innovation, and advance social impact through meaningful collaboration.

Knowledge knows no borders. 🌍

On 25th July, we were honoured to contribute to the Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Training Programme under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative, hosted by EPTRI, Hyderabad.
The programme brought together 43 delegates, including government officials, civil society representatives, and corporate leadership from 22 countries across Asia, Africa, South America an Oceania creating a global platform for dialogue, collaboration, and shared learning.

Our Director, Br. Varghese Theckanath, led a thought-provoking session on labour rights and social inclusion, focusing on the realities faced by domestic workers, waste collectors, and the transgender community, while exploring policy approaches that governments can adopt to build more equitable and inclusive societies.

Through meaningful conversations and the exchange of diverse perspectives, the programme reaffirmed that sustainable development is built on collaboration, compassion, and collective action.

On this Labour Day, we raise our voices in solidarity with every worker—seen and unseen—who builds our homes, strengthens our communities, and powers our nation.

Across all sectors, especially among informal and domestic workers, labour continues to be undervalued and often ignored. This must change.

We stand firmly for dignity, equality, and justice for every worker. No worker should be invisible. No effort should go unrecognized.

We raise our voice against systems and policies that weaken worker protections, exclude vulnerable groups, and deny rightful benefits.

• Fair and enforceable minimum wages
• Access to social security and welfare benefits
• Safe, respectful, and dignified working conditions
• Inclusion in labour laws and welfare systems
