UNITES was established in September 2005 following a year of preparatory work under a UNI Apro/SASK Finland Project designed to facilitate the unionisation of IT & ITES employees. Project objective being "Organizing IT, Call Centre and BPO employees in to trade Unions", identifying issues, development of campaign strategies, and capacity building through leadership development are main activities
that formulates different components of the total project. In line with the project’s objective, namely to support formation of a new union for young and educated workers, the performance indicators to assess the success of the project at various levels will be people's participation. This will include the numbers joining the unions, participation in training courses, seminars and workshops. Voluntary participation of members and potentials in organizing and recruitment campaigns, and other activities organized by UNITES at state and all India level will be one of the factors to be considered. We here at UNITES look forward for valuable support and active participation by employees of IT/ITES companies in building UNITES in to a strong employees union across India.
