Sweet Souls

Sweet Souls An initiative to bring together families with Type 1 Diabetes to create a support community Please share and support to take this cause forward!

Type 1 Diabetes is an auto immune disorder that affects thousands of young people all over the world. In this condition the pancreas stops producing Insulin, a hormone required to convert food to energy. Insulin has to be administered externally through injections or an insulin pump. People with Type 1 Diabetes have to monitor their blood sugar levels and balance their insulin dosages with food an

d physical activities. In India too, the incidence of T1D is increasing, so is the need for a support system. Organisations like Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation are very active in many parts of the world and are constantly providing resources and updates on research and managing Diabetes. The presence of any such support in India or specifically in the city of Hyderabad is not known and many children in need of information, resources are left in distress. This page is an initiative to start a support group, first by bringing affected families together so that experiences and resources can be shared.

🧘‍♂️ Starting the Day with Mindfulness and Movement 🧘‍♀️

One of the special moments of the T1D Got Talent event was the yoga session led by Venkatram Jagadeeshwar Reddy Garu, a person living with type one diabetes.

As the event coincidentally fell on International Yoga Day, we were delighted when he volunteered to conduct a session for our children and families. It was a wonderful reminder that health is not just about managing blood sugars, but also about nurturing the mind and body.

Living with Type 1 Diabetes himself for the past several years, Venkatram Garu shared how yoga has become an integral part of his daily life and diabetes management journey. Through his personal experience, he highlighted the importance of mindfulness, movement, and stress management in maintaining overall well-being.

The session began with simple meditation and breathing techniques, helping everyone slow down, focus, and be present in the moment. He also explained how stress can trigger the body’s fight-or-flight response and how yoga can help reduce stress through mindful breathing and gentle exercises. He then guided participants through easy-to-follow asanas, demonstrating that even a few minutes of daily practice can positively impact physical and mental health.

What made the session particularly meaningful was his emphasis on making yoga a habit rather than an activity. something that can be naturally incorporated into our everyday lives.

The children and families enthusiastically participated, creating a calm and positive start to a day filled with creativity, talent, and celebration.

On behalf of Sweet Souls Society, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Venkatram Jagadeeshwar Reddy Garu for sharing not just his knowledge, but also his personal journey. His session beautifully reflected the spirit of International Yoga Day and served as an inspiration for our T1D community to embrace wellness in a holistic way.

Thank you for reminding us that small, consistent habits can make a big difference in our health and happiness.
