The next EV battle may not be about range or battery size.

It could be about how smart the scooter feels after you bring it home.

Ampere's upgraded Magnus G Max keeps its core hardware largely familiar, but adds the NxG.io software platform with 30+ connected features, including navigation, cruise control, hill-hold assist, Find My Scooter and Ping My Scooter.

For family-oriented EVs, that shift is interesting.

Because convenience, connectivity and ease of ownership can matter just as much as performance.

HEV's Take: As EV hardware becomes more competitive, software could become the next big differentiator.

As the ecosystem evolves, conversations around:

๐Ÿ”น EV financing
๐Ÿ”น Auto lending and leasing
๐Ÿ”น New ownership models
๐Ÿ”น Residual value and risk assessment
๐Ÿ”น Access to affordable capital

will become increasingly important in determining how quickly electric mobility scales across India.

That is why we are excited to bring the EV Mobility, Auto Finance, and Industry Media ecosystems together on one platform.

At Humans of EV, we have always believed that building the future of mobility requires conversations beyond the vehicle itself. It requires innovators, manufacturers, policymakers, investors, financial institutions and industry stakeholders to come together and solve the ecosystem's biggest challenges.

We look forward to being part of this important conversation in Mumbai.

BikeWo Green Tech has signed a ๐ง๐จ๐ง-๐›๐ข๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐Œ๐จ๐” with Hala Mobility to explore the deployment and management of electric vehicle fleets, with an initial proposed deployment of around ๐Ÿ,๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ ๐„๐•๐ฌ. Yuluโ€™s funding is a strong signal that investors are increasingly looking at EV mobility through the lens of unit economics and real world utilisation not just vehicle volumes.

The next challenge will be executing a fourfold fleet expansion while maintaining utilisation, reliability and positive economics.

As conventional fuel prices rise, Tata Motors says electric commercial vehicles are reaching total cost of ownership parity earlier in their operating life, making them more attractive for fleet operators. The company is already seeing significant growth in demand for smaller E-CVs, while enquiries around electrifying light, intermediate and heavy commercial vehicle fleets are also increasing.

The shift is also moving beyond India's largest cities. Tata Motors says demand for its electric small commercial vehicles is increasingly emerging from Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns as charging infrastructure expands.

๐—›๐—˜๐—ฉโ€™๐˜€ ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐จ๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ:

This could be one of the most important signals for India's commercial EV market. Commercial buyers are fundamentally driven by economics. They care about utilisation, running costs, downtime, financing and the payback period. As diesel and CNG prices rise, the point at which an EV recovers its higher upfront cost moves earlier, improving the business case without the OEM necessarily having to cut vehicle prices.

The close-to-10% EV pe*******on in Tata Motors' SCV pickup segment is therefore worth watching. It suggests that electrification is beginning to move beyond pilots and early adopters in applications where daily utilisation makes the TCO proposition compelling.

India wants to accelerate electric commercial vehicle adoption. But as electric trucks move into heavier freight applications, a new question is emerging:

Tata Motors has flagged what it calls an โ€œ๐š๐ง๐จ๐ฆ๐š๐ฅ๐ฒโ€ in the ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฒ structure for electric tractor units used with semi-trailers. According to Managing Director and CEO Girish Wagh, these electric truck tractors currently attract a basic ๐œ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฌ ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฒ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ 10%, and Tata Motors has raised the issue with the government through SIAM. The Ministry of Heavy Industries has also taken up the matter with the Ministry of Finance.

The company has not specified what revised tariff it is seeking. But its broader argument is clear: policy should support not only EV adoption, but also local engineering and the development of a vertically integrated electric CV ecosystem.

๐—›๐—˜๐—ฉโ€™๐˜€ ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐จ๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ:

This is bigger than a debate over one tariff. It highlights a potential tension at the heart of Indiaโ€™s EV strategy. Low import barriers can help bring new technology into the market quickly, but domestic OEMs investing in local platforms and manufacturing could argue that the long-term industry needs a policy framework that also rewards local engineering and value addition.

Girish Waghโ€™s comments are particularly significant because Tata Motors says its electric CV portfolio, from smaller cargo vehicles to a 55-tonne electric tractor, has been engineered in India. At the same time, the company is still facing supply-chain constraints around imported battery cells. That shows the challenge clearly: localising the final vehicle is only one part of the equation; building the underlying battery and component ecosystem is the harder, longer-term task.

India isn't increasing the electric two-wheeler subsidy.

It's increasing the runway.

The PM E-DRIVE support for electric two-wheelers has been extended until March 31, 2028, with the segment's allocation rising to โ‚น2,767 crore.

But the incentive remains at โ‚น2,500/kWh, capped at โ‚น5,000 per vehicle or 15% of the ex-factory price, whichever is lower.
That distinction matters.
The government is giving the E2W industry more policy visibility, but not necessarily greater dependence on subsidies.

HEV's Take: The next phase of India's EV growth will be about building products and businesses that can compete even when incentives become less important.

The removable LFP battery is perhaps the most practical part of the proposition. For first-time EV buyers, charging convenience can matter as much as range. Removing the need for dedicated home charging could widen the addressable market.

As two-wheeler EV pe*******on rises, the bigger competition will be over affordability, convenience and everyday usability not just headline range.

Will removable batteries become a major advantage for EV scooters in urban India?
