BRIEF REPORT ON MITR FOUNDATION
Mitr Foundation is a non-profit organization registered in Hyderabad, Telangana, India in the year 2004 with the aim of supporting the education of school-going children in the urban slum areas of the twin cities of Hyderabad-Secunderabad. Providing education for the underprivileged child is a critical area of national investment and it is Mitr’s conviction to equi
p the children we support with a formal education and an environment to strengthen their self-confidence and access development opportunities that mainstream children enjoy. What Mitr does: We currently sponsor students at two schools, the Sri Sai Vidyarthi High School in Addagutta, Secunderabad and the Vidyarthi Subhoday High School in Yellareddygutta, Hyderabad, Telangana, India, usually taking care of about 300 children a year. This apart, we also help sponsor part fees for deserving students studying in other schools. As an example, we have sponsored the hostel fees for a medical student who stood first in her studies in Khammam for four whole years. Our Commitment: The trustee members are personally and physically involved with disbursement of the funds collected (garnered from fund-raisers and sponsors).
• The selection of the students to be sponsored is carefully made, after studying the economic condition of each student, their overall family situation, previous class results, etc.
• The trustees begin the school year by going to the schools and distributing the text books to each child under their care.
• One guardian is also called in to understand their own responsibility by ensuring the child attends school regularly and is facilitated with a safe environment at home too to study.
• The trustees make quarterly visits to the school, and check on attendance and port cards of the students.
• The guardians of attendance defaulters or poorly performing students are called for a 1-1 and warned of the consequences.
• We must assert that the costs of time, effort and local travel for these school visits are all borne by each trustee, and do not come out of the funds collected. Being financially able themselves, they do not do this for repute or money.
• Instances can also be enumerated when the Trustees paid the cost of the uniforms from their personal funds, for the students who abstained classes for want of finances to attend to such immediate needs.
• The trustees have been using their personal connects and the generosity of venue, hotel and printing partners to defray expenses of events as well. It is the total commitment of these trustees to the cause which must be appreciated.
• No overheads are incurred by the Foundation, so every rupee collected is spent for the betterment of an underprivileged child. Some of our sponsors: Healthware Pvt Ltd has been a regular sponsor, donating every year apart from taking up repair works, infrastructural requirements, even providing healthy beverages and snacks to the schools in question. Our other key patrons over the years have been Dr.Reddys’ Laboratories, G L Mandhani Charitable Trust, Karvy, Mahaveer Auto, Titan, Pragathi Printers and the Rotary Club of India, to name a few. Our certifications: Our certifications stand testament to the fact that we are trusted to deliver on our mission by all parties concerned, including the government.
• We hold the 80G certification granting our donors the ability to avail of a tax deduction on the donation.
• We are also certified under the FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) which allows us to receive funds from abroad.
• Our books are open to be seen by our sponsors and are audited regularly as well. How you can help: Companies who have embraced philanthropy as a core business practice have found they reap rewards far beyond what they thought was possible. We have heard about your company’s generous and empathetic heart for philanthropy.
• Your CSR funding will help us immensely.
• The average annual fees works out to about Rs.15000 (Rupees Fifteen thousand per year) per child in the schools that we support (this is an average of the annual fees across the lower and higher classes), including annual fees and books, working out to a requirement of Rs.45,00,000 (Rupees Forty Five lakhs only) per year.
• Apart from monetary support, we also look forward to your successfully mobilizing volunteers at your work place by inspiring them to volunteer support for this cause. In Conclusion: A committed network of people supporting a cause year-around is key in community fundraising and also a fulfilment of Corporate Social Responsibility. We hope you would help us in funding and supporting our activities for the benefit of these bright, but disadvantaged children. Email: [email protected]
