Howrah Sishu Kalyan Samity is a voluntary organization working for the needy and destitute children since 2002. Till 2013, we have conducted relief in~40 villages across different districts of West Bengal, India and helped 2500+ poor children. is social initiative. Howrah Sishu Kalyan Samity's sphere of work can be broadly categorized as below –
a) Extending support to the abandoned children in Howrah General Hospital
• Police brings the new born babies, who are forsaken after birth, as well as other lost children, who are ailing or too young to go to an orphanage, to the hospital. We provide baby food, clothes and other basic necessities for upkeep of these children.
• On an average there are 4-5 such children in the hospital that gets our regular support. b) Providing relief to the poor children in remote villages
• Every year we conduct several events in different needy areas. During monsoon, we provide rice, dal & potato to the children of the flooded villages. We provide new clothes during Durgapuja. In winter we provide warm clothing to the children.
• We provide relief to 400-500 children each year. We have conducted relief events in ~40 villages across Howrah, East & West Midnapore, Hooghly, Bankura & Sagardwip. c) Supporting children with medical needs
• We are running a medicine bank in Bhojan village near Amta for more than a year to support the village children.
• We have supported three poor children, who had fatal heart diseases, in their treatment with cardiac surgery.
