ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಖಗೋಳ ಸಂಘ (Bangalore Astronomical Society) ಸಹಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಗಿರುವ ‘ತಾರಾ ವೀಕ್ಷಣೆ’ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 7, 2026 ರ ಶನಿವಾರ ಸಂಜೆ 5:30 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಸರಕಾರಿ ಹಿರಿಯ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಾಲೆ ಸಂತೇಗುಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯಲಿದೆ. ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಮೂಲಕ ಖಗೋಳ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸುವುದು ಉದ್ದೇಶವಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನವರಿಗೂ ಮುಕ್ತವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಉಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಬಹುದು.�

ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವವರು ರಾತ್ರಿಯ ಆಕಾಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಳೆಯುವ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಗಳು, ಗ್ರಹಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಗ್ಯಾಲಕ್ಸಿಗಳನ್ನು ದೂರದರ್ಶಕಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ವೀಕ್ಷಿಸುವ ಅವಕಾಶ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ನೋಂದಣಿಗಾಗಿ 6362600180 ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಗೆ ವಾಟ್ಸಾಪ್ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು.

A team of herpetologist, botanist, and environmentalist recently conducted a night field study in Honnavar to explore the region’s ecological richness. They highlighted the need for stronger conservation measures to protect this biodiversity hotspot.
During the study, they encountered several remarkable species, including the endemic Ghatiana splendida crab, Malabar pit viper, critically endangered Dipterocarpus indicus, and the Jog night frog, reflecting the unique biological wealth of the Sharavathi landscape.

Our project coordinator, supported by a dedicated team of volunteers, conducted an awareness session for 14 trekking groups from Mysore who visited Karikanu Hills and Kanur Port. The trekkers were introduced to the unique ecological value of the Myristica swamps, a highly fragile and ancient ecosystem that plays a vital role in maintaining biodiversity. The team also highlighted the presence of rare, endangered, and endemic species that depend on these habitats for survival, emphasizing the urgent need for their protection.

Through this initiative, the trekking groups not only enjoyed the natural beauty of the landscape but also gained deeper insight into its conservation importance, making their experience both memorable and meaningful.
