Now a days the status of women is subject to drastic developments. Many changes in human rights and women rights are occurring recently.

Jharkhand Mahila Jagriti is an NGO with the objective of women empowerment with special focus on rural women and girls from poor and marginalized section of the society. Still there is a lot of work to be done before we can be satisfied about the position of Indian women. Still immense differences in the empowerment of women are found in many parts of our country on various issues and aspects. Som

e parts are seen as ‘modern India’, where women enjoy a strong position in society. Others parts are still developing, women there are still suppressed and do not enjoy equal status with men. To break this tragic cycle JHARKHAND MAHILA JAGRITI is creating more awareness of women rights. One way is by the implementation of strengthening programs .This is were the projects of JHARKHAND MAHILA JAGRITI come to expression. In the rural areas of JHARKHAND the empowerment of women is low profile. By educating and training MEMBERS OF JHARKHAND MAHILA JAGRITI comes in close contact to the village women. For example, by training and educating village volunteers a continuous flow of information in rural villages is created. Our target group is underprivileged women in the areas of HAZARIBAGH. JHARKHAND MAHILA JAGRITI realizes the importance of local wisdom, knowledge and resources witch can be used to develop better understanding of human rights. In giving workshop to village women JHARKHAND MAHILA JAGRITI is trying to get a greater awareness among women in rural area. Besides this we work on educational seminars in the villages, aiming on knowledge sharing on different important topics, like ACT’s, women rights etc making the women more aware and confident about their position in the society. By educating the old and the young all members of society are tried to reach. It is equally important to reach the new generation. Educated young women in developing countries can earn more for themselves and their families. Besides this they will have healthier children the longer they can remain in education and their children will be more likely to go to school as well’. Let this be another proof for the importance of strengthening projects, like given by JHARKHAND MAHILA JAGRITI . We will work on a fair chance of functioning in society for women all over India. Our overall goal is the empowerment of women and girls from poor and marginalised communities leading to improvement in their lives and livelihoods.

Gender equality features as the Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG5) by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Gender equality is also crucial in achieving other SDGs. There have been noticeable progress over the past decade, however there is a lot to be done before we can be satisfied about the position of women in the society.

Gender differences are very pervasive in the Indian society. Especially in the developing regions where women are still suppressed and do not enjoy equal status as men. ‘Jharkhand Mahila Jagriti’, through its various programs and initiatives works to break this tragic cycle. Jharkhand Mahila Jagriti has helped in formation of more than 250 Self Help Groups (SHGs) each consisting of 5 to 20 female members. The NGO overlooks their functioning and also provides them with necessary training for undertaking cooperative entrepreneurial activities. These includes- stitching, tailoring, and embroidery workshop; mushroom cultivation workshop; farm and animal breeding workshop. The NGO has documented several success stories wherein rural women have adopted entrepreneurial activities contributing to their income and livelihood.

Jharkhand Mahila Jagriti undertakes activities against the shameful practice of child marriage which is still prevalent in the state of Jharkhand. Jharkhand Mahila Jagriti has organized several street play (often in collaboration with other NGOs like ‘breakthrough’) spreading awareness against the practice of child marriage. The NGO is also vigilant in catching cases related to child marriage and provide legal support to the concerned party. Jharkhand Mahila Jagriti also undertakes initiatives against other social evils that includes- domestic violence, forced dowry, discrimination against widows etc.

Jharkhand Mahila Jagriti believes that a healthy society requires healthy women. Anemia among women is a cause of major concern in India as well as in the state of Jharkhand. As per figures from the National Family Health Survey 2015-2016, 71.5 per cent children between the ages of 6 to 59 months in rural areas of Jharkhand were found to be anemic. Furthermore, it was revealed that 67.3 per cent women within the age bracket 15-49 suffered from anemia. Jharkhand Mahila Jagriti undertakes free health checkup camps for rural women. The NGO also organizes workshops and seminars related to female health and sanitation.

Jharkhand Mahila Jagriti realizes the importance of education, knowledge and resources that is crucial to the realization of individual selves and contribute to the society. It has been well documented that educated young women in developing countries can earn more for themselves and their families. Besides this they will have healthier children and their children will be more likely to go to school and obtain good education’. Jharkhand Mahila Jagriti currently undertakes several small initiatives to educate rural women. Jharkhand Mahila Jagriti has organized workshops on ‘Financial Literacy and Banking’, ‘Women’s Rights and Laws’, etc. The organization aims to launch a formal ‘Adult Literacy and Education’ program in the coming years.

The status of ‘girls education’ is dismal in the state of Jharkhand. Although the enrollment rate is high but high dropouts and quality of education remains a concern. Jharkhand Mahila Jagriti currently provides scholarship assistance to girls. The NGO also arranges remedial classes for first generation learners. The NGO plans to launch a formal school providing free education to girls in the state of Jharkhand.
