SSDS

SSDS Since its registration in 2001, Shiv Shankar Development Society
(SSDS) has had deep-rooted ties to the community.

SSDS has worked in
myriad areas of social and economic significance. These include
environment protection, sustainable development, bio-fuel, health, voter
awareness, legal aid, women empowerment, mental health, plantation
drives, river cleaning drives, welfare campaigns for bringing the
deprived into the mainstream (including the specially-abled), relief work
during disasters including, most rece

ntly, the COVID-19 pandemic. The Society was recognized by the then Governor of Uttar Pradesh in
the year 2005 for its work on the bio-fuel, ‘jatropha’ plant. The tableau
presented by SSDS at the Republic Day Parade, 2005 on the Vidhan
Sabha Marg, Lucknow was felicitated for creating awareness about the
bio-diesel yielding plant, ‘jatropha’. Much before the advent of social media, SSDS was at the forefront of
presenting social issues through street plays and nukkad nataks. Whether
it was the issue of women empowerment, girl child, education, or those
of mental health, patriotism, freedom struggle, the team of dedicated
SSDS volunteers has performed street plays in remote villages not just
in Hardoi district, but in adjoining districts of Lucknow, Sitapur,
Lakhimpur Kheri, Shahjahanpur, among others. SSDS also produced a
feature film, titled “Shaheed 1932”, about an incident where villagers of
village Simariya (District Hardoi), who were protesting against the
British rule, were shot at in 1932. The society also constructed a
memorial in the village with the support of the local community to
honour the martyrs. Society’s work in the plantation drive on the 52 km-stretch of the
Chaurasi Kosi Parikrama Marg falling in district Hardoi was recognized
by the district administration. SSDS worked in tandem with the district
administration to not just organize the plantation drive, but also
encouraged the local villagers to adopt a plant each and care for it. SSDS also regularly organizes free health camps in and around villages
of Hardoi to make healthcare more accessible to those who have been
deprived of it. The work of the Society in the health sector has been
recognized by UNICEF in India and the Ministry of Health & Family
Welfare, Government of India. Delegations of SSDS have been invited
on various occasions to present their ideas on immunization, maternal
health, health of the newborn, issues relating to the girl child and
adolescents. SSDS also takes a keen interest in promoting local culture and talent. It
regularly supports youngsters in sports,Nukkad Natak,Music,
Singing,Bhazan Sandhya and art by organizing various competitions.
