It is truly inspiring to witness the remarkable efforts of the INTACH especially the Heritage Craft and Community Division (HCCD), in promoting and preserving India’s rich cultural legacy.
The thoughtfully curated walkthrough at Jor Bagh Metro Station, along with the insightful presentations, reflects the depth of vision and dedication with which HCCD is working towards safeguarding our heritage. The focus on initiatives like the Lodhi Art District beautifully highlights how heritage and contemporary public art can coexist and engage communities meaningfully.

A heartfelt appreciation to Bindu Manchanda ma’am for her inspiring leadership and commitment, and to Ms. Radhika Malhotra for her valuable contribution in showcasing impactful projects and interventions.
We also extend our sincere gratitude to Ashok Singh Thakur ji for his constant guidance and support in strengthening INTACH’s vision and outreach across the country.
Such initiatives not only educate and engage members but also motivate all of us to actively contribute towards the preservation and promotion of India’s diverse craft traditions and heritage.🙌👏💐🙏

Heartfelt greetings from the INTACH Gwalior Chapter on this special occasion of Earth Day 🌿💐

We sincerely appreciate the inspiring message shared by INTACH – Heritage Craft and Community Division (HCCD). It beautifully highlights the deep-rooted connection between our traditional crafts and environmental sustainability.

Gwalior Chapter strongly resonates with this vision. Our region’s rich craft traditions- including the recently GI-tagged Gwalior paper mache, Terracotta work, Battobai Doll ,Chitera Paintings many more stand as living examples of eco-conscious creativity, where artisans have long practiced harmony with nature.
We believe that promoting and preserving such heritage crafts is not just cultural conservation, but also a meaningful step toward environmental responsibility. Through awareness, workshops, and community engagement, we remain committed to strengthening this bond between heritage and sustainability.

On this Earth Day, we reaffirm our dedication to protecting both our cultural legacy and our natural resources.
Let us continue to celebrate, preserve, and promote crafts that nurture our planet .

Warm regards

Pitha is more than just a dish—it is a warm expression of tradition, love, and hospitality deeply rooted in Indian culture.
Prepared from rice or wheat flour, pithas come in delightful forms such as cakes, dumplings, and fritters. They can be sweet—filled with jaggery and coconut—or savory, often stuffed with lentils. From the soft, steamed Bhapa Pitha to the crispy, fried Ghila Pitha, each variety reflects the rich culinary diversity of regions like Assam, Bengal, and Bihar.
Closely associated with winter and vibrant festivals like Bihu, pithas are not just food but a celebration of togetherness. They symbolize warmth, seasonal joy, and the timeless tradition of sharing homemade delicacies with family and guests.
Simple in ingredients yet rich in cultural meaning, pitha continues to connect generations, preserving heritage through every bite.

✨ Heritage Walk at Moti Mahal & Baijatal, Gwalior ✨

The INTACH Gwalior Chapter recently conducted an enriching heritage walk for the students of Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya (SKV) at the historic sites of Moti Mahal and Baijatal.
Although the walk was originally planned for World Heritage Day, it had to be preponed due to prior commitments. Despite this, the experience turned out to be immensely engaging and insightful for all participants.
More than 150 students, accompanied by 15 teachers, enthusiastically took part in the walk. Led by Dr. Kamakshi, the session offered a deep and meaningful connection to the historical and cultural significance of these iconic sites.

Moti Mahal, once a prominent residence of the Scindia rulers of Gwalior, stands as a remarkable example of regal architecture and artistic elegance. Its intricate paintings, beautifully designed interiors, and historical richness provided students with a vivid glimpse into the grandeur of the past.

The walk was graced by the presence of Chapter Convener Vikas Singh, Co-convener Shri Chandradeep Singh, Governing Council members Shri Neelkamal Maheshwari and Shri Rajeev Tomar, along with other dedicated chapter members.

This initiative successfully ignited curiosity and awareness among young minds about the importance of preserving our rich heritage.

The program was organized in association with Heritage Foundation, and we look forward to many more such meaningful collaborations in the future.

It gives us great pleasure to invite you to the sixteenth Pupul Jayakar Memorial Lecture – 'Dynasts of Dakshinā Patha: Coinage and History of the Satavahanas' by Dr Shailendra Bhandare on 17th April 2026 at 6:30 pm at Alliance Française, 72, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi.

The Satavahanas were among the first imperial dynasties in the Deccan and Peninsular India. Spanning two centuries around the beginning of the Common Era, the 'Satavahana Age' witnessed key developments such as urbanization, the emergence of script cultures, trade with the Mediterranean world, and the flourishing of Buddhist monumental architecture.

Coinage, though often overlooked, is a vital source for reconstructing this period. The lecture will highlight the importance of numismatic evidence in understanding the Satavahana era, focusing on post-Mauryan regional polities, revisiting Satavahana chronology, and examining trade and political developments through coins.

Dr Shailendra Bhandare is Curator of South Asian and Far Eastern Numismatics at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, and a Fellow of St Cross College. He has previously worked with the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Society for South Asian Studies, and the British Museum, and has published extensively on Indian numismatics and monetary history.

Join us for tea at 6:00 pm before the event.

The lecture will be live streamed—https://youtube.com/live/1sbtlVBjbOA?feature=share
