Women carry the responsibility of nurturing families, managing households, supporting livelihoods, and strengthening communities, all while contributing to the nation’s progress through their resilience, leadership, and everyday efforts. This Mother’s Day, during our field visits across different communities, we witnessed how women continue to lead change through collective learning and community participation.

Through regular handholding support, 10 SHGs received guidance on maintaining essential records such as the Proceedings Book, Savings Ledger, and Attendance Register. Members were supported during monthly meetings to confidently maintain these records, strengthening transparency, participation, and collective decision-making within the groups.

To support this process, the AVA Sakhi Handbook was distributed along with the registers. The handbook provided practical examples for maintaining records, making it easier for AVA Sakhis and SHG members to apply the learnings within their own villages and reserve groups.

Follow-up visits on host plant plantations were also conducted to observe the implementation of scientific plantation practices shared during the training session held on 27 April. Guidance was provided on pit preparation, plantation methods, and maintaining records related to seed distribution and seedling growth. AVA Sakhis were encouraged to regularly monitor these activities within their groups.

SHGs were also encouraged to document positive changes within families and communities related to education, livelihoods, and income generation, helping build a stronger understanding of community growth.

Support was provided to 4 SHGs on 5 May, 3 SHGs on 7 May, and 3 additional SHGs on 10 May.

At AVACreations, Mother’s Day became a reflection of the strength, care, and leadership women bring into every aspect of life and community development.

At the AVACreations Experience Centre in the Matiya Hills near Deepor Beel, this summer became more than just a break from school. For a few days, the space was filled with colours, drawings, stories, laughter, and the energy of children from the families of our artisans, along with kids from the nearby hills.

What began as simple activities slowly turned into conversations about dreams, life, and possibilities. Through drawing, writing, games, and shared moments, we spent time understanding how these children see the world around them. In the beginning, many of their aspirations felt limited to what they had seen closely in everyday life. But as we spoke, encouraged, and learned together, something beautiful began to shift. The same children who once drew only houses and simple scenes started speaking about becoming IAS officers, teachers, police officers, doctors, and much more.

The camp was never about telling them what to become. It was about helping them believe that their dreams could grow beyond what they see around them. Because no dream is too small, and no child should ever feel limited by where they come from.

Over these days, we did not just witness creativity and joy, we witnessed confidence slowly taking shape. And perhaps that was the most meaningful part of all. ✨

Ahimsa Silk, known as Eri silk, has long been part of Assam’s heritage and is often called the silk of peace. Unlike other silks, it is spun from open-ended cocoons after the moth naturally leaves, reflecting care and harmony with nature. Traditionally cultivated across Assam and the Northeast, eri is woven into everyday life through handspun yarn and garments valued for durability and comfort. May 1st is observed as Eri Silk Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of renowned eri expert Padma Shri Dr. Jogesh Deuri.

Padma Shri Dr. Jogesh Deuri, also an advisor at AVACreations Social Impact Foundation, has played a defining role in strengthening the eri ecosystem. Widely respected for his expertise, his work has contributed to research, innovation, and a broader vision for sericulture. His efforts continue to highlight how eri silk bridges tradition with opportunity, and his legacy remains closely tied to the growth and sustainability of this sector.

The Kasurika Project is building a pathway toward livelihood security for forest-dependent communities. Supported by NABARD, Central Silk Board, SELCO Foundation, and AVACreations Social Impact Foundation, the initiative brings women together through producer groups to strengthen sustainable livelihoods within the eri silk value chain and boost local economies. Experts like Dr. Banka Bihari Singha and Sri SAS Rahman shared insights on scientific eri rearing, while Sri Trinayan Barman spoke on financial management and literacy for SHGs, emphasizing skill development, financial awareness, and strong grassroots systems.

AVACreations Social Impact Foundation works at the intersection of craft, community, and sustainability. Through OITIJJO Heritage Emporium, it brings the richness of Northeast India’s traditions closer to people while supporting artisans. Each initiative reflects a commitment to preserving heritage while building opportunities for the future. We at AVACreations Social Impact Foundation have always worked closely with communities where every story, and every shift in livelihood is captured through simple, everyday interactions. Over time, these moments have shaped our understanding of impact, even when they were not always formally recorded.

On 16 April 2026, we took a step towards strengthening this journey as part of the Force for Good initiative, beginning with our project kick-off in Hyderabad in collaboration with JPMorgan Chase.

The day was filled with meaningful conversations, questions that made us think and reflect on how we capture data, what truly matters to measure, and how technology can fit into real field conditions.

From artisan livelihoods and production processes to data accessibility and long-term sustainability, the discussions brought both clarity and new perspectives.

What stood out most was the shared intention to build something that is not just functional, but thoughtful, and that is something that can hold the realities of our work while helping us respond with greater awareness and efficiency.

As we move forward, this collaboration marks a step towards creating systems that not only organise information, but also strengthen the way we understand, support, and grow alongside the communities we work with.

This journey of life is not defined by where they begin, but by the choices that we make along the way. For Sukhdeb Das, lovingly known as Deb, the path began in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, in a simple family that valued hard work, respect, and responsibility.

Growing up, he watched his father, a master weaver associated with AVACreations for nine years, work with dedication, shaping his understanding of discipline and consistency. After completing his graduation in History in 2023 and a two-year ITI course in the fitter trade, he began his career as a Quality Checker at TVS in Chennai.
While the opportunity was significant, he found himself searching for something more meaningful, something that offered both growth and purpose.
That search led him to AVACreations, where he started as a Junior Office Executive, learning through small tasks and everyday responsibilities. What followed was a steady journey of growth.
From learning to use a computer to even driving a car, Deb developed essential life and work skills within this environment.
Over time, he moved on to managing logistics and supply chain operations and working as a Field Coordinator across projects.
Being trusted with greater responsibilities became a turning point, building both his confidence and sense of ownership.
Working closely at the ground level, engaging directly with people and processes, helped him understand the true value of effort, coordination, and teamwork.

Living within the AVACreations campus near Deepor Beel further shaped his journey. The environment, rooted in community and craft, influenced not just how he worked, but how he saw the world.

Today, his journey reflects more than professional growth. It is about finding direction, building confidence, and growing into responsibility. With the guidance of Founder Ms. Anu Mandal and Co-Founder Mr. Arup Kumar Baishya, along with the support of the AVACreations team, Deb continues to move forward with clarity and purpose, proving that when the right environment meets the willingness to learn, growth becomes inevitable.

Set in the Matiya Hills, near the edge of Deepor Beel, AVACreations Handloom Experience Centre is a space that does not reveal itself all at once. The journey towards it passes through winding hill roads, open stretches of nature, and everyday rural life that feels deeply lived in. When Nisha, a fashion student from NIFT Kolkata, first visited, she was taken by surprise by the surroundings. As she moved up the hill, she saw children playing with goats and calves, life unfolding in its most natural form. In the middle of all this, the sound of handlooms slowly emerged from within the space, creating a rhythm that stayed with her even before she stepped inside. For Nisha, choosing a place for her graduation project was an important decision. A conversation with our founder, Ms. Anu Mandal, gave her a sense of trust and clarity, and when she finally entered AVACreations, it felt like a space she could belong to, a feeling that stayed with her throughout her journey.

During her internship, Nisha worked across product development, textile gifting, and daily operations, with a focus on creating apparel and home textile collections inspired by village life. She explored zero-waste practices and worked closely with artisans, gaining a deeper appreciation for the skill, pride, and recognition behind their craft.

The experience shaped her both creatively and personally. From hands-on weaving to reconnecting with community life, she strengthened her technical skills and confidence, while understanding sustainability as something rooted in both people and process. For Nisha, this journey became more than a graduation project, it became a space to learn, grow, and ground her design practice.

The AVACreations Social Impact Foundation family wishes her the very best for her journey ahead. ✨

These fleeting seconds might not fully show what it feels like to be here, but they come close to the warmth you experience the moment you walk in.
There’s always something happening, women working alongside each other, conversations flowing easily, meals being shared, and little bursts of laughter that make the day feel lighter.

At AVACreations, women are at the centre of everything we do. Nearly 90% of AVACreations’ members are women.
Each of them comes with her own journey. Some are stepping out to work for the first time, some are rebuilding their lives, and some are simply looking for a workplace where they feel supported.

Over time, you begin to see real change, especially in their ability to earn independently, support their families, and make financial decisions with confidence.

Through our initiatives in skill-building, digital awareness, and financial inclusion, women learn things that go beyond daily work.

What makes this place special is that it’s not one-sided. While women come here to work and learn, they also bring so much with them, their effort, their stories, their experiences, and their energy.

Come spend a day with the creators who make AVA what it is today.💗

The precious crafts these women create are also accessible at OITIJJO – Heritage Emporium, our flagship initiative.

On 17th March 2026, we had the pleasure of hosting 50 students from The Downtown School, Guwahati (Grades 5 to 9) to the AVACreations Handloom Experience Centre.
During their time with us, the students were introduced to traditional handloom techniques and the importance of sustainable practices. It was inspiring to see their curiosity as they explored how crafts are created, and how these age-old methods continue to stay relevant in today’s world.

The visit offered them a chance to learn beyond the classroom, an understanding of the value of handmade work, the effort of artisans, and the importance of preserving our cultural heritage.

Experiences like these help plant early seeds of awareness, creativity, and respect for craftsmanship and sustainability in the minds of youth.

We are grateful to The Downtown School, Guwahati, for giving us the opportunity to share this experience with their students. We hope this visit leaves them with new perspectives and lasting inspiration.
