👓✨ FOLLOW-UP IMPACT | FROM SCREENING TO SOLUTION ✨👓

One of the most rewarding aspects of community service is seeing a project through to its intended outcome.

As a follow-up to the World Health Day 2026 Community Health Outreach Camp organised by Soroptimist International Guwahati (SIG) at Belguri, Digaru, SIG President-Elect Ms. Anannya Sharma revisited the village on 6 June 2026 to distribute 27 pairs of prescription spectacles to beneficiaries identified during the eye screening camp conducted in collaboration with Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya.

The spectacles were collectively sponsored by members of SIG, reflecting our shared commitment to ensuring that healthcare outreach extends beyond diagnosis to meaningful intervention and improved quality of life.

For many of the recipients—particularly women weavers whose livelihoods depend on clear vision—these spectacles represent not just better eyesight, but enhanced productivity, independence, and wellbeing.

This initiative completes an important continuum of care that began with screening, diagnosis, and referral, and culminated in providing a practical solution to those in need.

💙 Small interventions can make a big difference. Together, we continue to work towards healthier, empowered communities.

As we celebrate the power of Women Leading Green Futures, we are grateful to have marked World Environment Week with the inspiring presence of Dr. Purnima Devi Barman — conservationist, Green Oscar winner and Assam's renowned Hargila Crusader.

Through her captivating stories of the Hargila's remarkable recovery and her community-led conservation movement, Dr. Barman inspired the young Green Warriors of FSSS to see nature not just as something to admire, but as something to protect.

🌍✨ Inspiring Young Green Warriors for a Sustainable Tomorrow! Soroptimist SIGBI Soroptimist International Global

Soroptimist International Guwahati, in partnership with Faculty Senior Secondary School (FSSS), proudly commemorated World Environment Week 2026 with an inspiring interaction led by renowned conservationist and Hargila Crusader Dr. Purnima Devi Barman.

From biodiversity conservation and climate action to sustainable living and community engagement, students were encouraged to become responsible environmental stewards and agents of change.

A special highlight was the launch of notebooks created through our recycling initiative, transforming partially used exercise books into new learning opportunities for underprivileged children.

Together, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting nature, promoting sustainability, and empowering the next generation to lead green futures.

💚 Nature is our teacher. Conservation is our mission. People are our strength.

🌍 World Environment Week 2026 | Women Leading Green Futures 🌿Soroptimist International Global Soroptimist SIGBI

Soroptimist International Guwahati (SIG), in collaboration with Faculty Senior Secondary School (FSSS), proudly commemorated World Environment Week 2026 through an inspiring and impactful programme aimed at nurturing environmental stewardship among young minds.

We were deeply honoured to welcome renowned conservationist, environmentalist and “Hargila Crusader” Dr. Purnima Devi Barman as our Chief Guest. Through her inspiring conservation journey, she demonstrated how community participation can transform environmental challenges into success stories. Her powerful message, left a lasting impression on students and participants alike.

The programme featured a ceremonial Guard of Honour, welcome address by SIG President Dr. Mitali Goswami, cultural performances, an engaging interaction and Q&A session with students, and an environmental pledge led by Ms. Nabanita Borpujari, Principal, FSSS.

A key highlight was the launch and presentation of notebooks produced through SIG’s ongoing recycling initiative, undertaken in partnership with FSSS and SEPPA CARES. Now in its second consecutive year, the project transforms unused pages from partially used exercise books into new notebooks for distribution to underprivileged students in rural Assam—demonstrating how environmental responsibility and educational support can go hand in hand.

We were also delighted to learn about Dr. Barman’s newly launched “Cloth Bank” initiative, which promotes sustainable reuse of textiles while supporting traditional weaving practices.

The event concluded with students proudly taking a pledge to become Green Warriors and champions of a more sustainable future.
