“Will this tree still be here when I grow up?”

A simple question. A powerful reminder.

Today in Mawmluh, 47 students from three schools came together to plant trees, learn about environmental stewardship, and take part in activities that celebrated their role in shaping a greener future.

Surrounded by the beauty of Meghalaya’s landscapes, students and teachers joined hands with a shared purpose: to leave behind something that will grow, thrive, and benefit generations to come.

Every sapling planted today is a promise to tomorrow.

Because the answer to that child’s question depends on what we do today. 🌳💚

For many girls, menstruation is still surrounded by silence.

But this week in Balikuri NC, Salekura, and Bolaipather village of Barpeta, silence slowly turned into conversation.

On the occasion of Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026, 78 community members came together to listen, learn, and speak openly about menstrual health.

Girls’ collectives performed street plays and roleplays that reflected stories of periods, hygiene, shame, confidence, and support.

People stopped. Watched. Smiled. Asked questions.

And perhaps for the first time, many openly discussed menstrual health together.

Anganwadi Workers and ASHA Workers also joined the conversation, encouraging awareness, dignity, and healthy practices among girls and women in the community.

This Menstrual Hygiene Day, we did not just organize events.

We created safe spaces where girls could speak and communities could listen. 🌿

As part of the Livestock Project (Goatery and Poultry), an exposure visit was organised for 37 women farmers to a progressive farmer’s residence at Kalbari, Bhabanipur.

The objective of this visit was to learn directly from real field practices. Women farmers observed that goat rearing and poultry farming can be effectively managed at the household level to generate regular income, improve nutrition, and strengthen financial independence.

What made the visit impactful was the hands-on learning experience, understanding housing management, feeding practices, disease care, and the importance of consistent monitoring. These small but practical insights can make a big difference when applied back in their own villages.

Goatery and poultry are not just livestock activities; they are sustainable livelihood tools, especially for rural women, helping them move toward self-reliance and resilience.

In your experience, what is the biggest challenge or opportunity in scaling small-scale livestock farming, such as goat rearing and poultry, in rural communities?

International Women’s Day reminds us why working for women’s rights, dignity, safety, and leadership remains so important. It is a day to celebrate women’s strength and achievements, while also creating space for conversations around the challenges they continue to face in society.

With this spirit, on 8th March 2026, FST in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), observed International Women’s Day at the conference hall of Aman Foundation, Kalgachia. The programme began with discussing the importance of Women’s Day, following the Domestic Violence Act, and other rights that protect women.

A panel discussion on “Protecting Our Children: A Community Dialogue on Early Marriage” brought together different community stakeholders. Collective members, both girls and boys performed a role play on dowry. The event concluded with the facilitation of four girl leaders by DHEW in recognition of their hard work, dedication, and for being inspiring examples of women’s empowerment in society, with a total of 180 participants coming together for the program.

International Women’s Day is celebrated to recognize the strength, resilience, and contributions of women in every sphere of life. It is also a reminder of the ongoing need to promote gender equality and ensure that every woman and girl has the opportunity to learn, grow, and achieve her dreams.

On 6th March 2026, we celebrated Women’s Day with the women and young girls of Solapara, Guwahati under the theme “Give to Gain.” The gathering created a space for reflection, dialogue, and joyful participation within the community.

The event began with the screening of two short films, “Juice” and “Bas Intezaar Hai.” These films highlighted everyday gender roles within households and the importance of equal opportunities in education for girls. The screening followed by an engaging reflection session where participants shared their thoughts and discussed the realities many women and girls face while pursuing their aspirations.

An interactive activity invited women to reflect on their childhood dreams, what they wanted to become, why those dreams mattered to them, and the challenges that prevented them from pursuing them. The discussion encouraged openness, shared experiences, and collective learning.

The celebration also included fun activities such as Musical Chairs and a Spoon and Marble race for both women and young girls, bringing laughter and energy to the gathering.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by the distribution of plants as a token of appreciation for the participants.

The day served as a meaningful reminder that when communities come together to support and uplift women, we move one step closer to a more equal and inclusive society.

Building Leaders. Strengthening Communities! ✨

At FST, we believe that leadership is not just about authority, it’s about transformation. With this belief, we recently conducted a two-day workshop on Transformative Leadership for our community leaders and FST staff.

A total of 13 participants took part in the training, which created a space for learning, reflection, and collaboration. Through engaging activities, discussions, and field-based insights, participants strengthened their understanding of leadership and explored how transformative leadership can be applied while working directly with communities.

The workshop highlighted how leaders can inspire change, build trust, and lead with empathy while engaging in the field. It was a truly fruitful experience, with participants learning from one another and gaining practical tools to apply in their everyday work.

We look forward to seeing these leadership values translate into meaningful action on the ground. 🌱
