Planting Roots for a Greener Tomorrow

As part of our ongoing eco-restoration efforts, a community-led plantation drive was held at the Mankrola pond. Native trees such as Jamun, Pilkhan, Arjun, and Siris were planted around the site, transforming the space into a thriving green zone.

This initiative is already making an impact:
✅ Creating an improved habitat for birds, insects, and aquatic life
✅ Strengthening soil health and improving air quality
✅ Offering a clean, green, and peaceful space for the village community

Alongside the plantation, a community meeting was conducted to discuss the importance of community ownership in the long-term success of the project.

The Panchayat’s leadership was acknowledged as a key pillar in ensuring regular operation and maintenance of the site. Their support, along with the active participation of villagers, is helping turn this restored pond into a sustainable, community-managed asset.

With continued collaboration and shared responsibility, the Mankrola pond stands as a model of how nature-based solutions and local engagement can create lasting ecological and social impact.

With just 33 mm of rainfall, our 1.5-acre Bhokarka Pond, supported by a 2.5-acre catchment, captured over 314,000 litres of stormwater runoff — a powerful example of community-led stormwater management in action.

Based on soil conditions and infiltration potential, we estimate that ~110,000 litres of water has already begun recharging the groundwater table – silently strengthening the region's climate resilience and water security.

This is how nature-based solutions and stormwater management work hand in hand – turning every drop into future hope.

This monsoon, let’s turn our weekends into a movement for a greener Gurugram!
Join GuruJal’s Saturday Plant Days, where we come together to grow saplings, share knowledge, and take small steps that make a big difference. Bring seeds of Jamun, Mango, Litchi, or any native tree you love, and give a second life to waste materials like milk packets, bottles, tins, or chip packets by turning them into planters.

Learn how to identify native seeds, set up a nursery from scratch, compost, make natural fertilizers, and explore practical techniques like grafting and cutting — all while connecting with nature and your community.

📅 Every Saturday | 7:00 – 9:00 AM
📍 GuruJal Office, DLF-1, Gurugram

All the saplings prepared will eventually find a home across Gurugram’s green belts, community spaces, and forest areas. Open to all — kids, families, youth — everyone is welcome to get their hands dirty for a good cause!

"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now."

Let’s sow the seeds of a greener tomorrow, together!

International Yoga Day | When We Heal Ourselves, We Heal the Earth

At GuruJal, we believe that our connection with nature begins from within. On this special day, our team united in breath, movement, and mindfulness — celebrating the deep bond between humans and the natural world.

Yoga is not just a practice — it’s a reflection of life itself:
Like rivers that flow, trees that root, and the Earth that breathes — we too are nature in motion.

By cultivating inner peace, we nurture compassion for the planet.
By staying present and grounded, we learn to live more consciously.
And by aligning with ourselves, we align with the world around us.

Thank you to the GuruJal family for taking a moment to pause, reflect, and connect — because when we strengthen ourselves, we strengthen nature too.

Take a deep breath, stretch with purpose, and reconnect — with yourself and with Earth.

On World Hydrography Day, GuruJal seized the opportunity to engage with the second batch of over 400 passionate NCC cadets at Maitree International School, Bohra Kala.

Through an interactive session, we aimed to sensitize these future changemakers on the importance of measuring and mapping the features of water bodies and the need of knowing our native species of trees, a process that leads to water conservation and eco-restoration.

The session highlighted:
🔹 The power of individual action in driving collective change
🔹 The importance of the 3Rs — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
🔹 The role of forests and native species in mitigating climate change

It was heartening to witness the enthusiasm and curiosity of these young leaders. With awareness comes action, and these cadets promised two things - Each plants a tree and will carry their own bottle of water!

Yesterday, the Gurujal team marked at Maitree International School, Bhokar Kalan, engaging with 300+ bright cadets on the importance of water security, from our local water bodies to the vastness of our oceans.

We spoke about how what flows through our drains, rivers, and lakes eventually finds its way into our seas, affecting temperature, biodiversity, and critical marine species like zooplankton.

To bring the issue alive, we screened our award-winning stop-motion animation (1st Prize @ Urban Adda!)—a fun yet hard-hitting film on the impact of microplastics. It’s part of the Sea Change programme, supported by National Geographic, already reaching over 13,500 students across Tamil Nadu.

GuruJal share a commitment in rejuvenating and restoring our water bodies and ecosystems across India and aprreciates India’s MISHTI scheme, Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats & Tangible Incomes, that is a game-changing policy restoring 540 sq km of mangrove cover across 9 coastal states and 3 UTs. It combines climate action + biodiversity conservation + livelihoods.

Mangroves protect our coasts, store 4–5x more carbon than forests, and support marine life and fisherfolk. With over 22,000 hectares restored already, MISHTI shows how local action and national policy must go hand in hand.

Let’s keep connecting rivers to oceans, policies to people, and classrooms to climate action.

Day 3 | Urban Adda 2025
Ecological Solutions for Climate-Resilient Cities

Our final session ended with a reminder: Cities must breathe.

Moderated by Dr. Fawzia Tarannum, the panel brought data, passion, and hope to the table—reminding us of India’s forest loss, growing heat islands, and the urgent need to rewild our urban spaces.

Key voices from the session:
🔹 (CEO, Nagarro): Called for tech-powered, nature-based solutions in fast-urbanizing India.
🔹 Dr. Ranjana Ray Chaudhuri: Stressed hydrological restoration through blue-green infrastructure.
🔹 Victor Shinde: Urged us to move beyond quick fixes to people-first, process-driven planning.
🔹 Chetan Agarwal: Advocated for Natural Conservation Zones in Master Plans to protect what remains.
🔹 Nidhi Madan: Inspired us to treat cities as ecosystems—not just spaces, but living rhythms to listen to.

Together, they echoed one truth: ecological thinking isn’t optional—it’s essential for the cities of tomorrow.
A unique lens is also added—doodle art capturing key takeaways from the session

Be a Water Ambassador – Celebrating Young Changemakers

What started as a simple call to action grew into a beautiful wave of change. The Be a Water Ambassador program was designed to empower young minds across India to understand, audit, and conserve water in their own homes and communities.

Hundreds of students took on the challenge with incredible spirit—spreading awareness, conducting surveys, and becoming true guardians of water.

And today, we are filled with pride as we celebrate our Top Water Ambassadors: Araish Khan, Laxmi, Akriti, Piya Kansal, Layba Ansari, Shrestha Singh

These young changemakers were awarded by Archana Varma, IAS, Additional Secretary & Mission Director, National Water Mission, who personally saw their work and appreciated their dedication.

While only a few could receive the award, each and every Water Ambassador who participated has made a difference. Your commitment, creativity, and effort have made this movement truly meaningful.

You are all winners in our eyes.
Keep conserving, keep inspiring, and keep being the voice for water.
