A devastating cloudburst and flashflood tore through the quiet Himalayan village of Dharali in August 2025, sweeping away homes, belongings, and livelihoods within minutes. Families stood helpless as the waters raged through their village, leaving hundreds of local residents and migrant workers without shelter, food, or hope.
Weeks after the disaster, many continued to live in uncertainty, struggling to find food, battling the cold nights without bedding, and trying to rebuild from nothing.
On 24th October 2025, 100 affected individuals including 30 migrant labourers and 70 vulnerable local families received essential food supplies, hygiene kits, utensils, and bedding to help them cope with the coming Himalayan winter. The Pragya team, with the support of Altius, reached Dharali with critical humanitarian relief, a lifeline for those who had lost everything. This was the second tranche of relief delivered under Pragya's Relief and Rehabilitation of Flashflood-Affected Communities in Dharali initiative,
Community leaders and local youth trained by Pragya as Disaster Response Teams participated actively, identifying the recipients, ensuring that women-headed families, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and those who had lost their homes were the first to receive help. Pragya and Altius will continue supporting 250 affected families in total, giving food, hygiene, shelter, and clothing kits and helping them rebuild their livelihoods as well, with dignity and hope.

In the face of climate change, some of the most powerful innovations aren't high-tech—they're community-led. In the flood-prone regions of Bangladesh, rising waters are a constant threat. But instead of retreating, communities have adapted with incredible ingenuity.
From floating farms that rise with the water to raised homesteads that keep families safe, local knowledge is building true resilience. These bottom-up solutions are a testament to human adaptability and a powerful model for climate-vulnerable regions worldwide.
At Pragya, we believe in supporting and scaling these indigenous innovations. We work alongside communities to strengthen their capacity, integrate scientific knowledge, and build a more secure future from the ground up.

On 22nd and 23rd September, heavy rainfall hit the city of Kolkata (West Bengal, India), disrupting daily life and causing severe waterlogging across the city. The extensive damage left several slums badly affected, with many families stranded, their food stocks and essential items submerged.
Pragya’s Kolkata team immediately assessed needs and reached out to affected families in the Mominpur and Hastings slums, Kolkata. Within hours, a week’s ration supply was delivered to 100 families, ensuring access to essential food and household supplies during this difficult time.

Rebuilding lives after such devastation is never easy, and families in Kolkata still need our support.
Together, we stand with the affected communities in their time of need.

On 12th September, one hundred of the migrant workers who lost their belongings in the recent devastating flashfloods in Dharali (Uttarkashi, India) received food kits through Pragya’s Emergency Relief Operations. Ever since the flashfloods on August 5th, Dharali had been inaccessible by road, multiple stretches on the Uttarkashi to Dharali highway having been affected by landslides. Just a day after the road connectivity was restored, the Pragya team reached the location with the relief material, and the distribution was carried out in collaboration with members of the local village council. This effort was made possible with the support of community leaders, and the dedicated DRT (Disaster Response Team) network developed by Pragya is the district.
The people of Dharali and the migrant workers in the location who are struggling to meet their daily needs in the face of their recent loss continue to need our help.

Together, we stand with the affected families in this difficult time.
