A devastating cloudburst and flashflood tore through the quiet Himalayan village of Dharali in August 2025, sweeping away homes, belongings, and livelihoods within minutes. Families stood helpless as the waters raged through their village, leaving hundreds of local residents and migrant workers without shelter, food, or hope.
Weeks after the disaster, many continued to live in uncertainty, struggling to find food, battling the cold nights without bedding, and trying to rebuild from nothing.
On 24th October 2025, 100 affected individuals including 30 migrant labourers and 70 vulnerable local families received essential food supplies, hygiene kits, utensils, and bedding to help them cope with the coming Himalayan winter. The Pragya team, with the support of Altius, reached Dharali with critical humanitarian relief, a lifeline for those who had lost everything. This was the second tranche of relief delivered under Pragya's Relief and Rehabilitation of Flashflood-Affected Communities in Dharali initiative,
Community leaders and local youth trained by Pragya as Disaster Response Teams participated actively, identifying the recipients, ensuring that women-headed families, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and those who had lost their homes were the first to receive help. Pragya and Altius will continue supporting 250 affected families in total, giving food, hygiene, shelter, and clothing kits and helping them rebuild their livelihoods as well, with dignity and hope.
