We aim to contribute effectively towards improved socio-economic well being of the society by participating, contributing, involving and motivating at grassroot and national levels. The great soil of Bihar has given India its only glorious history as a victor. It were days of gloom and darkness and despair in which Chanakya, the only original Indian thinker and statesman in the past two millennium
s, dawned. He not only rid the country of foreign suzerainty and hopelessness, he rather made people believe in the abilities and prowess of their nation. But what was it, in Chanakya that such goals, as elusive as God, were achieved. The only answer could be his foresight, integrity, proactiveness and the will to do anything for his nation. If sought to be comprehended in one term, all his abilities could be termed as his ability of good governance. Patriots find the atmosphere suffocating when governance is not good. The ideal of good governance is the state machinery rushing to every citizen in pain. The root cause of all maladies affecting the nation is misinformation and / or non-information of citizenry. Although good governance includes within its sweep, the protection of interests of people despite all their unawareness, the necessity of creating awareness does not stand diminished. Creating awareness not only helps the state in achieving its goals, it also helps keep under check the follies that tend to derail the process of good governance. Lack of good governance always finds its roots in misinformation and / or non-information of citizenry. It is with this idea in mind that we seek to bring together the enlightened minds of society and generate public debate on policies of state. It is by this means that we seek to create awareness among masses about their rights and obligations vis-à-vis the state. It is purely an academic endeavour. As of now we shall be focussing on the following aspects of good governance:
Socio economic development. Women empowerment. Rural sanitation. Upliftment of under privileged child. Awareness at very remote level about constitutional right of every human. Awareness for – what Governance is all about. Implementation of good governance in Gram Panchayat. Legal awareness program for Gram sabha members. Enrolment of social audit system at local level. Proper plan for development at village level and its strategy for implementation. To understand the total development mechanism at very remote level
Chanakya had his own conceptions as to what is good governance. When it came to taxation, he firmly held the view that taxation should be such as a honey bee collects pollen from flowers. He firmly believed that security of the citizens at peace time is very important because state is the only saviour of the men and women who get affected only because of the negligence of the state. He advised people not to inhabit a country where you are not respected, cannot earn your livelihood, have no friends, or cannot acquire knowledge. Here he proclaims the goals of the state – 1. Ensuring the dignity of the individual; 2. Ensuring an atmosphere of security, conducive to individual’s economic and social well being; and 3. Justice. These were the bare necessities of good governance even two millenniums ago. The very existence of state is founded upon public faith. The conception of state arose millenniums ago to ensure safety and security to the people. More importantly, the state had to be a proactive partner in the development of the people by ensuring peace and creating atmosphere conducive to his growth. It is not merely the sense of safety in the society that is the hallmark of good governance. The need is that the individual must feel certainty of being treated at par with all others. It is common experience that people tend to feel cornered when they are not treated alike. When the State and its functionaries adopt dual standards in treating people, people tend to resent. The resentment if left unaddressed results into revolt. The revolt if sought to be repressed, irretrievably erodes the faith of the people in the system. And once this faith goes away, nothing can restore it. As the life in all its dimensions tends to get more and more complicated, the role of state gets equally complicated.
