New Hub. Small Daily Sustainable Actions.
Earth Day at iamgurgaon is about the small, daily actions that shape our future. On April 22, we took a major step forward by opening our 6th Samadhan Hub at Sushant Lok 2.

The Hub was inaugurated by Sonia Yadav (Councillor, Ward 21) and Vikas Yadav (Councillor, Ward 22), Kanhaiya Aggarwal (Senior VP, Kotak Mahindra Bank) alongside Kuldeep Hindustani (MCG), Prinka Yadav, and RWA President Harish Yadav. Their support is the backbone of this initiative!

Event Highlights:
• Wheel of Change: An incredible exhibition of wheel art created from waste by students across 9 schools.
• We honoured our “real heroes”—the iamgurgaon volunteers—and our participating schools with trophies made from recycled materials and gift plants.
• A huge thanks to our corporate partner Kotak Mahindra Bank, and our recycling partners Ananda Vrinda, 3R Zero Waste, and Avacayam for sharing their sustainability expertise.
• Charu Govil volunteer was felicitated for her contribution

A Huge Thank You to Our Participating Schools: Your creativity and energy made this day truly impactful: 📍 GPS C1- Maanas Shiksha 📍 GPS B2- Maanas Shiksha 📍 AIHDC- Maanas Shiksha, Sector-43 📍 Hans Nayi Disha 📍 Pehla Akshar 📍 DAV Public School, Sector-14 📍 The Shri Ram School, Moulsari 📍 Shiv Nadar School 📍 The Shri Ram School, Aravali

Together, we’re keeping the wheel of change turning.

Morning light, sighting 25+ species, and a reminder of what’s worth protecting.

This Earth Day, we traded the city’s hum for the songs of Sikanderpur Pahadi. Led by conservationist Preeti Anand, over 50 participants—from toddlers to grandparents—gathered to witness the magic of a restored ecosystem.

The highlights:
1. Yellow-footed Green Pigeons coming down to the water’s edge.
2. Rosy Starlings dancing across the sky and Spot-billed ducks in pairs.
3. Spotted Owlets, Golden Orioles, and the vibrant White-throated Kingfisher.

Protecting biodiversity starts with noticing it. A huge thank you to Optum for supporting the 80-acre restoration of this landscape. We aren't just bringing back birds; we’re bringing back life for the whole community.

Walking the green artery that keeps Gurgaon alive
Ahead of Earth Day, we spent a soulful morning at
the Chakkarpur–Wazirabad Bundh (CWB) with a wonderful group of senior citizens. Led by our volunteer Charu Govil, this wasn't just a walk—it was an immersion into forest healing.

In the heart of this mobility corridor, we swapped the city's hustle for a different kind of rhythm:
• Listening to peacock calls and layers of bird song—the unmistakable sounds of a returning ecosystem.
• Touching native bark and leaves to reduce stress and reconnect with the present moment.
• Learning about native Aravalli species like Bajradanti (a traditional medicinal plant) and how they protect our soil and water.
What was once a barren 5.2 km stretch is now a vibrant space where nature lovers, professionals, and homemakers walk side-by-side. From sharing childhood memories to observing the return of biodiversity, this walk reminded us that simple moments in nature are the best inspiration to protect it.

Since 2015, the Chakkarpur–Wazirabad Bundh has transformed from a very different world. It was once a forgotten space—choked by waste and disconnected from the people living right next to it. You could even smell it from a distance.

With the incredible support of multiple partners, we took on the challenge of reviving this 5.2 km stretch. Today, it’s not just a “forest”—it’s a vital mobility corridor, a sanctuary for biodiversity, and an award-winning example of urban restoration.

Turning waste into a "Wheel of Change!"

In anticipation of Earth Day, 66 students came for a workshop at our Samadhan Hub and to learn the real power of the 3 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Highlights:
- Turning plastic waste into cycle art.
- Learning source segregation at our Sushant Lok II Hub.
- Partnering with Hans Nayi Disha, Maanas Shiksha, and Pehla Akshar.

Waste doesn’t have to end up in a landfill. It can be the start of something beautiful.

Special thanks to our corporate partner KotakBankLtd for supporting the Samadhan Hub.

True sustainability is often hidden in plain sight.

While the native trees and species are the heart of Aravali Nagar Van, the infrastructure that supports them tells a story of circularity. From the foundations of our water tanks to the pillars of our decks, we’ve found productive ways to reuse construction debris—incorporating it into the very landscape where shrubs and grasses now flourish.

It’s about building a forest that isn’t just green on the surface, but sustainable at its core.

Gurugram needs more Change-Makers.

We are looking for a Community Outreach Resource to lead the charge for a truly sustainable Gurugram. This role is for people who can look at a pile of e-waste, old clothes, or plastics and see a path toward responsible disposal rather than a landfill.

Your Mission:
• Mobilize the City: Engage RWAs, schools, and institutions to move toward 100% source segregation.
• Drive Behavior Change: Shift the community mindset from "waste" to "resource."
• The Bridge: Work with local authorities (MCG/GMDA) and waste collaborators to ensure every item finds its right place.
• Data for Impact: Maintain digital records to track how much waste we’ve diverted from the environment.

Are you the one? If you are a graduate with 2–4 years of field experience, love talking to people (in Hindi and English!), and want a role that actually leaves the world better than you found it—we want you.

Location: Gurugram (Field-based)

The story of Ghata Bundh is proof that no land is "too far gone" to be saved. What was once a forgotten dumping ground is now a thriving 17-acre urban forest and a critical "living lung" for Gurgaon.

The Impact of Restoration:
• Waste to Wellness: 1 km of debris transformed into a 17-acre urban forest.
• Water Security: Restored the natural watershed to recharge groundwater and mitigate flooding.
• Sustainable Design: Created walking paths using recycled construction waste.
• A Home for the Wild: From silence to a symphony of life – 44+ bird species, butterflies, and Nilgai.

This is the power of eco-restoration. When we give the land its breath back, nature gives us a future.

This milestone is a result of collective action. A huge thank you to the government, our ecological experts, the village community, and NatWest Group for believing in this vision.

Nature is the best auditor.
At Ghata, the results are in the air.

In 2021, this 1 km stretch was defined by waste and debris. Today, it is a thriving 17-acre urban forest.

The proof of our restoration is in the diversity of those who have moved back in. It’s the steady rhythm of the Black-rumped Flameback (Woodpecker) on the trees, the metallic call of the Coppersmith Barbet, and the shimmering presence of the Glossy Ibis and Spot-billed Duck by the water.

From the Black-winged Stilts to the Indian White-eyes, Purple Sunbirds, and Rose-ringed Parakeets fluttering through the new canopy, every sighting is a signature of success. Even the Spotted Owlet and Black Kite have found their place in this restored landscape, proving that if we provide the right native habitat, nature will always find its way home.

A huge thank you to Preeti Anand for documenting these incredible sightings and helping us tell the story of Ghata’s revival.
