PERMACULTURE WEEK – TOOLS FOR HEALTHY SOIL

For the first day of , we're visiting Malvikka Solanki from swaYYam, where she's giving a tour of Open Shell Farm, an educational centre for regenerative farming.

One technique used on the farm, and shared with local farmers, is the use of swales and berms. These tools help farmers create healthy soil and therefore healthy crops. Water and nutrients are held in the landscape for longer, continuous crop cover reduces soil erosion and tree shelter belts reduce the impacts of wind.
