The School of Law, Bennett University, had the privilege of hosting an insightful expert talk on **“Law, Life and Learning” by Mr. P. K. Malhotra, Former Law Secretary, Government of India.

Drawing upon his vast professional experience, Mr. Malhotra guided students through the different stages of their legal journey—from making the most of law school life to approaching internships with sincerity, discipline and a willingness to learn.

He also shared valuable advice for aspiring advocates, emphasising the importance of thorough preparation, professional ethics, effective communication, courtroom conduct, respect for the Bench and the Bar, and continuous learning. He encouraged students to view internships not merely as academic requirements, but as opportunities to observe the profession closely, develop practical skills and build meaningful professional relationships.

The session offered students a realistic and inspiring understanding of the legal profession and reminded them that success in law is shaped not only by knowledge, but also by integrity, perseverance, humility and responsibility.

Addressing our incoming law students, Dr. Patra drew upon his remarkable experience as a parliamentarian, academic and legal professional. His interaction offered students valuable insights into the relationship between legal education, parliamentary democracy, leadership and public service.

The session formed an integral part of the Deeksharambh 2026 orientation programme, where students were introduced to the values, expectations and academic journey ahead at the School of Law.

Today, the 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗮𝘄, 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘁 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, had the privilege of hosting 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝗿. 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗸 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗿𝗮, former Chief Justice of India and the 𝟰𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮, for 𝗨𝗚𝗖–𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲—our Student Induction Programme.Addressing the newly inducted law students, Justice Misra urged them to pursue legal education with 𝗱𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲, 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆. His call to become 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 offered our students a powerful understanding of the responsibility that accompanies the study and practice of law.

He reminded students that 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. It should develop a 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗮𝘄—the ability to question, reason logically, analyse complex issues and find meaningful solutions. His emphasis on 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵, 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 provided valuable guidance for every aspiring legal professional.

Justice Misra also encouraged students to remain firmly guided by the constitutional values of 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲, 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆, 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆. His message was unequivocal: 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗮𝘄.
