๐ World Environment Day 2026 | Communities Leading Climate Action in Giridih, Jharkhand ๐ฑ
This World Environment Day, communities across Giridih came together to reaffirm a simple yet powerful message โ environmental protection is a shared responsibility, and climate action begins at the grassroots.
At Gondlitand village under GP Bajto, Giridih Sadar Block, an awareness programme witnessed the participation of over 500 community members, 100 children, PRI representatives, school teachers, and social workers. Children showcased their creativity and environmental consciousness through a Sit & Draw Competition, while 550 fruit-bearing saplings were distributed to promote greener and more sustainable livelihoods. We were honoured by the presence of Ms. Vinita Kumari, Independent Director, GIC Re, who joined the community in celebrating the spirit of environmental stewardship.
Simultaneously, at Dhobana village under Udaipur GP, Gandey Block, another vibrant World Environment Day programme brought together more than 600 participants. Activities included a Seed Ball Exhibition, cultural performances, elocution and drawing competitions, and the distribution of 550 fruit saplings. The programme witnessed active participation from KVK scientists, BTM officials, Mukhiya, ward members, traditional leaders, teachers, and community members.
Together, these initiatives reached over 1,100 people, engaged hundreds of children and youth, and distributed 1,100 fruit saplings, strengthening the link between environmental conservation, nutrition, and sustainable rural development.
As climate challenges grow, such community-led efforts remind us that every planted tree, every aware citizen, and every engaged child contributes to building a greener, healthier, and more resilient future.
