10 September 1965.‘OPERATION RIDDLE’. When Pakistani forces launched an attack with Patton tanks in the Khem Karan Sector, Company Quarter Master Havildar Abdul Hamid, 4 Grenadiers with his recoilless gun immediately moved out to a flanking position and knocked out the leading enemy tank, thereafter swiftly changing his position he sent another tank up in flames. Undeterred, under enemy’s concentrated machine gun and high explosive fire, Company Quarter Master Havildar Abdul Hamid relentlessly kept on firing on enemy tank. His brave action inspired his comrades to put up a gallant fight and beat back the heavy tank assault. Complete disregard of his personal safety and sustained act of bravery in the face of enemy fire was in the highest traditions of Posthumously awarded . .
