In a resplendent display of indigenous heritage and spiritual profundity, the Yangli Festival of the Tiwa community was ceremonially observed at Amsai Pinung in Umswai, reaffirming the community’s enduring cultural ethos and agrarian traditions.
Celebrated once every five years, Yangli stands as a sacrosanct cultural institution, symbolizing the ritualistic invocation and (welcoming) of Lakhimi, the Goddess of Wealth, prior to the commencement of the cultivation season. The festival embodies collective aspirations for abundance, ecological harmony, and protection from adversities affecting agriculture.
The occasion was dignified by the august presence of Dipsing Dewraja, His Highness the King of Gobha, alongside Jursing Bordoloi, President of the Raj Darbar. The attendance of the Khunguris (Princes of the Gobha Kingdom) further accentuated the ceremonial grandeur and royal legacy intertwined with the festival.
Adding intellectual and cultural gravitas to the gathering, Sudharshan Thakur and Nadiram Dewri were also present among other distinguished personalities, underscoring the festival’s significance beyond community boundaries.
