It is with profound sadness that All Sikkimese Bhutia Association (ASBA) mourns the demise of Captain Sonam Yongda @ Captain Yongda, a distinguished figure in Sikkim’s history and a loyal servant of the Namgyal dynasty.
Captain Yongda was a key member of the inner circle during the final years of the Kingdom of Sikkim, serving with dedication as the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the 12th Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal. As a trusted officer within the palace guard, he held a position of high proximity during the tumultuous political developments of 1974-1975.
Following the merger, Captain Yongda remained a resolute figure, later facing detention for his unwavering loyalty to the pre-merger Sikkimese identity. His passing marks the end of an era. Founder of DPCA School in Pelling, Sikkim he transformed countless lives through his commitment to free education and social upliftment, leaving behind an inspiring legacy that will continue to illuminate the paths of many.
