This is a initiative to being bonded and helpful to each other by creative means. The Microbiology Department in Gujarat Vidyapith was established in 1993. In the summer of year 1995 in the campus of "Mahadev Desai Gramseva Mahavidhyalaya" Gujarat Vidhyapith, Sadra the first batch of B.Sc. (Microbiology) was started with 7 students. Today the strength has been increased to 120 students with course
s like B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. The Biogas Research Center was doing work in Anaerobic Microbiology and Biogas. The Mission objectives of the department was to carry out research in the field of Biogas technology and popularize it. The researchers here carry out studies in the field of microbiology of biogas production and improvement in anaerobic processes for higher biogas yield. The department is situated on the bank of Sabarmati river with serene natural environment live and pursue studies in microbiology and specialized research. In the department various biomass and Agri and Industrial wastes are researched upon to improve the biogas productivity. Moreover the the technology is popularized in the rural surroundings. The extension work of department has instigated many rural families and livestock owners to take up biogas technology as their domestic fuel replacement. The Bachelors in Microbiology was started in 1995 and the Masters in Microbiology was started 1999. The Biogas research center and Department of Microbiology have State of Art Research Facilities in the field of Microbiology. The Department have well furnished Labs and Equipment. Few Major equipment to name are: GC, HPLC, HPTLC, AAS, PCR, GEL DOC, UV-Phase Contrast Image Analysis Microscope, Anaerobic Workstation, Gassing Manifold, Low temperature Storage Facility. Few Minor Equipment in Multiple Units are: DB UV-ViS Spectrophotometer, VIS-Spectrophotometers, 96 Well Plate Reader, Incubator, Ovens, Autoclaves, Laminar Air Flow, Nitrogen Analyzer, COD analyzer, Flame Photometer, CO2 Incubator, Environmental Shakers, Heavy Duty centrifuge, Cooling centrifuges, pH-Conductivity-TDS meters, Microscopes etc. Specialized Equipment: Anaerobic Reactors ( 5 L Anaerobic Bottle Reactors, Packed Bed Single Phase Anaerobic Reactors, Packed Bed Two Phase Anaerobic Reactors, Biogas Plant Mini model reactors, Equipment and Glassware for Anaerobic cultivation. The department is one of the few to develop skills to cultivate anaerobic microbes specially Methanogens. The faculty has expertise in anaerobic cultivation and has collaborations with many universities in projects and to dissipate their expertise.
