Yobin Community Disowns ‘Khoshi Pai Festival,’ Announces Collective Boycott

The Yobin Community has issued a strong public notice categorically disassociating itself from the so-called “Khoshi Pai Festival”, proposed to be organised on 5 and 6 February 2026 at Circle, district, stating that the event is being “misleadingly projected as a tribe festival of the Yobin Community” without any mandate or consent.
In the notice issued on Sunday, the community stated that it “strongly objects and condemns such portrayal,” asserting that the Community does not recognise or celebrate New Year or any similar event in the form being projected through the said festival.
“Portraying such an event as a Yobin tribe festival is misleading, unauthorized and against the customs, traditions and collective will of the Yobin Community,” the notice categorically stated.
The notice further named the alleged organisers, Jothisey Yobin, Cheyose Ngwazah, and Yulisa Yobin, and clarified that the individuals are organising the event “without any mandate, approval or consent from the Yobin Community, neither from any recognized and legitimate leaders, nor from any community’s institutions.”
Terming the act as illegitimate, the community asserted that “organising or projecting an event as tribe festival without community authorization is illegitimate and unacceptable.”
Highlighting the lack of representation, the notice clarified that participation in the proposed event is restricted to individuals from only two villages, Dawodi and Hazolo, out of more than fifteen Yobin villages, thereby nullifying any claim of collective consent.
“Hence, there is no general consensus or collective approval of the Yobin Community for this festival,” the notice stated.
