BMA Class - Module 2: Production Management

This module felt extra special as it was taught by our director Nish*t .sangomla with permanent faculty Laxmi ben .

The class began with the Golden Circle and Business Model Canvas, and smoothly moved into production planning for this year’s exhibition and the coming year.

Through interactive activities, students understood the production process, raw material sourcing, lead time, MOQ, and maintaining quality as per client requirements. They also explored SKUs, inventory management, and cash flow.

The module concluded with jury presentations and thoughtful feedback from our BMA graduate artisan designer.

Basic Design: Sourcing from Heritage and Nature (Module 2)

Led by Mr. Rajesh Banerjee along with our permanent faculty Prakash Bhai, this module introduced students to the elements and principles of design, the core concepts that guide every design process.

As part of the module, students visited Bhuj’s iconic heritage sites such as Aina Mahal, Prag Mahal, Chhatedi, and Sharad Baug, observing design in both nature and historical architecture.
Through drawing, observation, and hands-on practice, they developed a deeper understanding of these concepts and their connection to their own crafts.

Students also experimented with abstraction from their drawings and translated them into practical craft samples.

The module concluded with a jury, where expert artisan designers shared their feedback and suggestions with the students.

We have begun this year’s Design Course with a class of 11 men artisan students.

The first module, Colour: Sourcing from Heritage & Nature, was led by Ms. Manasee Jog, with support from our permanent faculty Prakash Siju. Students explored colour schemes and developed their understanding of colour through discussions and practical exercises.

Ms. Pragya guided them in sketching, helping them observe and translate their ideas onto paper. A hands-on dyeing workshop with Bandhani artisan Amar Khatri allowed students to experiment directly with dyeing techniques.

They also engaged with weaving, Ajrakh, embroidery and Bandhani through sessions with master artisans. The learning extended beyond the classroom with a field visit to Mandvi- Drabudi Beach, the shipbuilding site, Vijay Vilas Palace, and the local market, drawing inspiration from their surroundings.
