A proud milestone for MBCT as 20 students from the 46th batch of the Computer Basic Course successfully appeared for their final assessment. The assessment was conducted by external examiner Deepti Chanana, former PHP Trainer at TCIL Chandigarh. Her expertise, professionalism, and insightful academic guidance added immense value to the evaluation process.
MBCT extends heartfelt gratitude to Deepti Chanana for her valuable contribution and continued support in empowering rural youth through quality education.

MBCT News Friday, 13 March 2026: MBCT’s 41st Free Eye Operation Camp – March 2026
Today, on Super Friday, Mehar Baba Charitable Trust (MBCT) Bassi Pathana in collaboration with the Trinjan Sahelian of London (UK) and Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust, Patiala, held it’s biannual Eye Camp at MBCT Community Centre in Bassi Pathana. The OPD was conducted by a team comprising of Dr. Akanksha (MD), Ramesh Kumar and Gurpreet Singh, of Dr. G. S. Randhawa’s Eye Hospital & LASIK Centre, Patiala. They screened 353 out patients from 93 villages for cataract and related ailments. Free medicines were provided to 247 patients for various eye ailments. 106 persons were identified and shortlisted for cataract surgery with IOL replacement. These patients were further tested for HIV & HCV, blood pressure, and blood sugar before being recommended for surgery. The cataract removal and IOL replacement surgeries will be performed at Dr. G. S. Randhawa’s Hospital in Patiala, over the next two Sundays.
To date, more than 18,799 villagers have benefitted from 40 OPD camps, and 4,307 patients have undergone cataract removal and IOL replacement surgeries using the cold laser technology. MBCT appreciates the extra effort put in by Harbans Singh, a social worker from Village Fatehgarh Niuwan and Village Jallowal, Randhir Singh, social worker of Village Manak Majra who had transported 70 + villagers from their and neighboring villages in their own tractor trolley to attend the MBCT Free Eye Camp.
The villagers said they have full faith in the Eye Camps organized by the Trust because MBCT ensures the use of high-quality intraocular lenses and state-of-the-art surgical equipment, without having to spend a single penny. There is no dearth of Free Eye Camps offered by Doctors, but the villagers prefer to wait for the MBCT Eye Camps, as they have full trust in abilities of Dr. G S Randhawa, a renowned Eye surgeon from Patiala and they they have complete faith in the NISHKAM services provided by MBCT for the past 22 years in the region.
Shiv Datt, Vice President of www.stragglersofasia.co.uk, a resident if United Kingdom attended the Eye Camp. Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust was represented by Jai Krishan Bhola (Member, Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust, Fatehgarh Sahib) along with Paramjit Singh and Jaswant Singh. Thakur Singh Mejie, Trustee, and Amareshwar Goraya Advisor, were there to receive the team of Doctors from Dr. G S Randhawa Eye Hospital. They ensured that the outpatients were made comfortable and the registration was carried out properly and they made sure the camp went off smoothly without and hitch. Trustee Thakur Mejie commended Amrik Singh from Village Pamour for offering his voluntary services at the camp.

MBCT News: Mehar Baba Charitable Trust (MBCT) proudly announces yet another inspiring example of its commitment to “Transforming Lives.” Sanju Kumar, now 24 years old, began his journey as a caddy at the Chandigarh Golf Club and comes from an Economically Weaker Section (EWS) family originally from Uttar Pradesh. Recognizing his talent and determination, MBCT took Sanju under its care and supported him from August 2016 to April 2023 in pursuing his dream of becoming a professional golfer.

During this seven-year period, the Trust provided extensive support that included professional coaching from renowned golf coaches Jessi Garewal and Amandeep Johal, the purchase of complete golf kits and playing attire, and financial assistance for participation in approximately 38 national-level professional golf tournaments held across the country. This sponsorship, which amounted to a total investment of about ₹7 lakhs, helped Sanju develop both professionally and personally. As a result of his perseverance and the support of the Trust, Sanju achieved a major milestone when he joined the Indian Railways on 28 April 2023 at the Engine Workshop in Patiala in an administrative role as a Junior Clerk.

Continuing his passion for the sport, Sanju recently participated in the Bharat Golf Mahotsav – GFI Tour 2025–26 held in Gurugram on 7 March 2026. In this tournament, he achieved a remarkable feat and won a Mahindra BE6 electric car, likely awarded as a Hole-in-One prize or special tournament award. The Trust proudly congratulates Sanju Kumar on his achievements and wishes him continued success and fulfillment in his career and life ahead.

MBCT News 6th March 2026: Legendary Olympian and former Ugandan field hockey player Kuldeep Singh Bhogal, who represented Uganda in the men’s hockey tournament at the 1972 Summer Olympics and scored four goals during the Olympic tournament, visited the Mehar Baba Charitable Trust Community Development Centre at Bassi Pathana. He was accompanied by Ojaswwee Sharma, National Award-winning filmmaker and India Head of SikhLens, along with the SikhLens team.
Kuldeep Singh Bhogal is widely respected not only for his achievements as an international hockey player but also for his contributions as a coach and mentor in global hockey. After his Olympic career, he went on to captain and coach the United States men's national field hockey team and later worked with the Canada men's national field hockey team, including serving as assistant coach for Canada during the 1976 Summer Olympics. Over the years, he has remained actively involved in promoting and developing the sport of hockey internationally. The distinguished guests were warmly welcomed by MBCT Trustee Thakur Singh Mejie, who also led them on an extensive tour of the Trust’s various departments and community initiatives.
During their visit, the delegation toured the Vocational Training Centre, Computer Learning Centre, and Phulkari Makers Bassi Pathana, a Rural Women’s Entrepreneurship Development Program that supports local women artisans by providing them with training and sustainable livelihood opportunities. The guests were presented with a digital overview highlighting the vision and mission of the Founder and showcasing the Trust’s nearly two decades of dedicated service in 187 adopted villages of District Fatehgarh Sahib.
Students of the Vocational Training Centre warmly welcomed the visitors and demonstrated their skills in embroidery, tailoring, and garment making. The guests were highly impressed by the quality of training being imparted and appreciated the Trust’s continuous efforts to empower rural women and preserve traditional craftsmanship while promoting economic self-reliance.
Later, the delegation visited the MBCT Hockey Nursery located at the ITI Grounds in Bassi Pathana. Trustee Thakur S. Mejie informed Bhogal Ji that the Nursery was established in 2009 with the objective of nurturing talented young players from rural areas and helping them progress to the Indian national hockey team. He shared that more than 117 players, including 79 girls, have so far been placed in centres of the Sports Authority of India and other prestigious sports institutions across the country.
Adding a special moment to the visit, Bhogal Ji played a friendly game with the MBCT hockey players and interacted closely with the coaches Tejinder Singh, Wazir Chand and Jasvir Bajwa and presented his Biography Book to Trustee Thakur Singh Mejie and MBCT Coaches. During the interaction, he shared valuable insights, practical tips, and motivational guidance with the young trainees.
Trustee Thakur S. Mejie expressed heartfelt gratitude to Kuldeep Singh Bhogal for visiting the Trust and for his encouraging commitment to supporting the growth and success of the MBCT Hockey Nursery and its aspiring players.

MBCT News: ✨ Proud Moment for MBCT! ✨
Mehar Baba Charitable Trust (MBCT) was honoured at the Sikhlens: Sikh Arts & Film Festival 2026 held at Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh on Sunday 28 February 2026.
On behalf of MBCT, Trustee Thakur Singh Mejie received the honour in recognition of the Trust’s continued efforts in preserving the traditional art of Phulkari and empowering women through self-help groups, enabling them to become self-reliant. The Trust was also appreciated for its ongoing initiatives including regular health check-ups, computer skill training for youth, and vocational training for young girls as beauticians, fashion designers, and other livelihood skills across 187 villages of Fatehgarh Sahib district.
The award was presented by Biki Singh, Founder of Sikhlens (USA), in the presence of Ojaswwee Sharma, National Award-winning filmmaker and India Head of Sikhlens.
This recognition strengthens MBCT’s commitment towards women empowerment, youth skill development, healthcare initiatives, and community transformation.

News | Thursday, 12th February 2026: Certificate Distribution to 10th Batch of MBCT SOSVAN VOCATIONAL SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM.
Dr. James Mandigo, President and Vice Chancellor and Spouse Karen Natho from the Faculty of Health Sciences (Kinesiology), Chilliwack Campus along with University of the Fraser Valley (India) team, visited Mehar Baba Charitable Trust today. The distinguished guests were warmly welcomed by MBCT Trustee Thakur Singh Mejie and were given a tour of the Trust’s various departments.
Dr. Mandigo and Natho awarded Diploma Certificates to 58 students who successfully completed their courses in Cutting & Tailoring and Skin & Hair Care under the 10th Batch of the MBCT SOSVAN Vocational Skills Training Program. While addressing MBCT, Karen shared that this was her first visit to India. She expressed that she truly loved the rural landscape and appreciated the warmth of the people. She conveyed her sincere gratitude for being given the opportunity to be part of the event and said she felt honored and happy to be present.The guests interacted with students of the Vocational Training Centre and the Computer Learning Centre. The Fraser Valley team appreciated MBCT’s practical training methodology and praised the artistic work created by the VTC students. They also met the artisans of the Self-Help Group “Phulkari Makers, Bassi Pathana.”
Hema Panesar presented an overview of MBCT’s flagship initiatives, including Women Empowerment and Youth Development Projects, the Hockey Nursery, Rural Health Management, and Community Development Programs.
Under the MBCT SOSVA Scheme, 25 students of the Cutting & Tailoring course were awarded sewing machines, while 26 students of the Skin & Hair Care course received beauty care kits.
Neha from Village Latour proudly shared her experience of the Skin & Hair Care course, highlighting how the training enabled her to earn a substantial income through freelance beauty services and support her family. Bindu Kapila from Bassi Pathana also shared how the Cutting & Tailoring course transformed her life by giving her confidence, skills, and financial independence.
Trustee Thakur Singh Mejie thanked the Fraser Valley team for their gracious visit and expressed hope for continued collaboration to uplift rural communities in District Fatehgarh Sahib.

MBCT News Saturday, 7th February 2026: THE 5th NATIONAL SIX A SIDE HOCKEY TOURNAMENT HELD AT CHARAN GANGA STADIUM SHRI ANANDPUR SAHIB.
A two days 7 & 8 February National Six a Side Hockey Tournament for U-14 Girls & Boys was hosted by Shri Anandpur Saheb Hockey Club. A Total of 32 teams from Five States participated. MBCT Hockey Nursery U-14 Girls and Boys teams, comprising 25 players, reached Shri Anandpur Sahib to participate in the tournament., they were accompanied by Tejinder Singh Chief Coach, Wazir Chand, Senior coach alongwith coaches Jasbir Singh and Varjinder Kaur.
Kirandeep Rana President, Gurjinder Singh, Secretary, PP Dr. Palwinder Singh Kang , PP Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Rtn. Captain Tarsem Singh all members of the Rotary Club of Shri Anandpur Sahib and PP Rtn. Hassan Singh Mejie, Managing Trustee, MBCT, and Rtn. Manmohan Luthra of the Rotary Club of Chandigarh were all very warmly welcomed to the Tournament by the organisers Kamalpreet Singh Mattu, the coach of Shri Anandpur Saheb Hockey Academy. He also received dignitaries present on the occasion Gurcharan Singh (Army Hockey Player), and Maninder Singh Rana, Owner of Park Plaza.
The first exhibition match was played between the U-14 Girls teams of MBCT Hockey Nursery, Bassi Pathana, and Shri Anandpur Sahib Hockey Academy, the host team. The match was played in a lively atmosphere and witnessed enthusiastic participation and excellent sportsmanship. The MBCT U-14 Girls team emerged victorious with a 2–0 win.
The second match featured the MBCT Hockey Nursery U-14 Boys team against Hockey Academy Solan (Himachal Pradesh). Displaying strong coordination and skill, the MBCT boys secured an impressive 4–2 victory.
The hosts, Anandpur Sahib Hockey Club, made excellent arrangements for the visiting teams by ensuring a well-balanced and nutritious diet for all players throughout the tournament. Coach Kamalpreet Singh Mattu expressed sincere gratitude to President Kirandeep Rana, PP Dr. PS Kang, PP Rtn. Hassan Singh Mejie and presented them with mementos, he thanked all the dignitaries present for gracing the occasion and encouraging the young players.

HARDARSHAN MEJIE REMEMBERED *- Remembrance Day in memory of the Founder Trustees Prof. Hardarshan Mejie & Narinder Singh and the three women Harnam Kaur & her daughters Rajpal Cheema & Harbaksh Mejie, who were the spirit behind the establishment of the Trust. The Founders Day began by seeking Almighty’s Blessings with Sukhmani Saheb Path as thanksgiving which was followed by most soulful & Blissful kirtan performed by Ragi Akashdeep Singh, the Hajoori Kirtinya Jatha from Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib.
Many well wishers & Panchayats from the 187 villages adopted by the Trust came to pay their respects to Prof. Hardarshan Singh Mejie. They fondly remembered him for the humility & compassion with which he always met them. They saluted his vision, courage and commitment to uplift the rural youth and communities, which according to them stands unmatched even to date. They also appreciated the Trustees for carrying forward his Legacy of SEWA despite his absence since December 2014.

Alba Smeriglio, British Deputy High Commissioner of the United Kingdom in Chandigarh, visited the MBCT Community Development Centre, Bassi Pathana today. She was accorded a warm traditional rural Panjab style welcome and was received by Trustees Hassan Singh Mejie, Thakur Singh Mejie, and Harkiran Mejie, Advisor MBCT. Mehak Mahajan and Roohi Hasiza from the British DHC, Chandigarh, and Deepika from the British Council, Chandigarh were warmly welcomed.
Hema Panesar gave a digital presentation highlighting MBCT’s mission and vision, detailing its four avenues of public service, partnerships, key achievements, and impactful success stories. Managing Trustee Hassan Singh Mejie briefed the guests on the rich historical significance of the MBCT building, which once served as a mint-cum-treasury of the Mughal Governor of Sirhind in the late 1600s, believed to hold secrets of hidden treasures buried beneath. He further shared that in October 2004, the MBCT’s three-storeyed, 20,000 sq. ft. building was completed in a record five months, on 31 March 2005.
Trustee Thakur Singh Mejie provided an overview of MBCT’s flagship initiatives, including Women Empowerment and Youth Development Projects, the Hockey Nursery, Rural Health Management, the Community Development Project with PGI, and notably the JAGO Project in collaboration with the High Commission of Canada, New Delhi.
Baldev Singh, former Sarpanch of Damheri, shared his experiences of over two decades of association with MBCT, highlighting how the Trust’s community development initiatives particularly healthcare and the WasH project.
The guests were then taken on a guided tour of the Vocational Training Centre, Beauty School, Computer Learning Centre, and the Entrepreneurship Development Program Phulkari Makers Bassi Pathana (SHG). Alba Smeriglio expressed keen interest in interacting with students and artisans and was especially impressed by the mehndi artistry, BOSCH skill training, and computer education programs. The visit concluded with a vibrant Lohri celebration and Giddha performance by VTC students and MBCT advisors Hardeep Kaur and Harjinder Kaur who were joined by their newly wed daughters-in-law Sejalpreet Kaur and Karanpreet Kaur, along with Karanpreet Kaur. Dressed in colourful Punjabi attire, the women danced joyfully to traditional Punjabi boliyan, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Punjab.
Expressing her appreciation, Alba Smeriglio lauded MBCT’s dedicated efforts towards uplifting rural youth, especially women. She remarked that she could clearly see leadership potential and confidence among the youth and conveyed her willingness to work collaboratively with the Trust to help them blossom into successful professionals and responsible citizens.
Trustee Thakur Singh Mejie thanked the visiting dignitaries and conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the British Deputy High Commissioner and thanked her officials for taking time out to support the cause of rural women and youth of District Fatehgarh Sahib. Today MBCT Hockey Nursery Girls U14 Team comprising of 17 players reached DCRTPP Hockey Academy, Yamunanagar at 10.0am. They were accompanied by Tejinder Singh, Chief Coach, Senior Coaches Wazir Chand & Hansraj Chabra, and coaches Jasbir Singh, Ishant Kumar Varjinder Kaur & Amanpreet Kaur.
PP Rtn. Kapil Gupta of RC of Yamunanagar, the Chief Guest, was escorted to the DCRTPP Hockey Grounds by PP Rtn. Hassan Singh Mejie Managing Trustee MBCT, PP Rtn.Jaspal Singh Sidhu and Rtn. Manmohan Luthra belonging to Rotary Club of Chandigarh, while Thakur Singh Mejie, Trustee MBCT escorted from Chandigarh the Guest of Honour Ackeem Robinson from the British DHC (UK) in Chandigarh. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour were received at the Hockey Grounds & given a grand welcome by the coaches and players of both the Teams. Other dignitaries present included Beant Kaur & Alawi Singh of Hara Farm Yamunanagar, Santokh Singh Dhillon of Khera Farms, Jaghadhri, Rtn. Hardeep Anand (Rocky), Rtn. Himanshu Bajaj of RC Yamunanagar & local industrialist Vijay Gupta. The players of both the Teams had gone through their warm up drill and were ready to begin the match.
A thrilling match ensued between the U14 Girls Teams of MBCT Hockey Nursery Bassi Pathana and DCRTPP Hockey Academy, Yamunanagar (the host team). The match witnessed enthusiastic participation, excellent sportsmanship in a lively atmosphere. MBCT Girls maintained a 1.0 lead in the first half of the game. In the 3 quarter the Yamunanagar Girls scored an equaliser and in quick succession scored the second & winning goal. The Yamunanagar Girls emerged victorious in front of their home crowd.
The hosts Sunil Saini and XEN Charanpreet Singh Sodhi had made excellent arrangements for the players by ensuring a well-balanced and nutritious diet throughout the event. In addition, they graciously organized lunch for all the guests, reflecting their thoughtful planning, hospitality and commitment to the overall well-being of both the players and the guests present.
Thakur Singh Mejie Trustee MBCT addressing the gathering expressed sincere gratitude to the Chief Guest PP Rtn. Kapil Gupta, and enumerated his philanthropic works like running Sri Sathya Sai Jagriti Vidya Mandir School in village Darwa for 450 children of EWS Families. The Closing Day of WHC 2025 saw dignitaries both local and from abroad & three thrilling matches of U-11, U-14 & U-17 Teams of MBCT Hockey Nursery & The Roundglass Hockey Academy of Anandpur Saheb. Harveer Kaur PCS, SDM Bassi Pathana was the Chief Guest & the Guests of Honour were Brig. J. S. Arora (Retd.), Former Director, Sainik Welfare Board -Punjab, Shiv Datt, Vice President www.stragglersofasia.co.uk; Advocate Amardeep Singh Dharni & Dr. Surjit Verma (Advisor MBCT). Thakur Singh Mejie, Trustee MBCT warmly welcomed all the dignitaries and presented them with the official WHC 2025 mascot silk scarf & a bouquet.
The final day of the four-day Winter Hockey Camp began at 8:00 a.m. with warm-up exercises focused on stamina building and flexibility. This was followed by intensive coaching sessions aimed at sharpening critical hockey skills such as playing with strategy, teamwork, passing and shooting practice, reverse flicks, penalty strokes, and corner shoot-outs skills that often decide the difference between a hit and a miss, a win or a loss.
The first match was played between the U-11 Boys Team of MBCT Hockey Nursery and the Hockey Academy Roundglass team from Anandpur Sahib. Both teams displayed excellent skill, discipline, and determination throughout the match. The contest remained highly competitive until the final whistle, keeping the guests in the visitors’ stands glued to their seats. The match ended in a draw.
The second match was played between the U14 Girls Teams of MBCT Hockey Nursery & the Roundglass Academy Team from Anandpur Sahib. The MBCT girls delivered a stunning performance and won the match convincingly with a 5–0 victory.
The third match featured the U-17 Boys Teams of MBCT Hockey Nursery against the Roundglass Hockey Academy Team from Anandpur Sahib. The Anandpur Sahib team won 2–1.
Brig. J. S. Arora (Retd.) congratulated the winning teams & the MBCT management for ably carrying forward for the past two decades, the seed of Hockey Nursery sown by Prof. Hardarshan Singh Mejie, the Founder Trustee. He congratulated the event organisers, the coaches and the supporting staff for the exciting and eventful four days of the Winter Hockey Camp.
Gold medals were awarded to the winning teams and silver medals to the runners-up by Brig. J. S. Arora, Shiv Datt and Thakur Singh Mejie Trustee MBCT.
In his vote of thanks, Thakur Singh Mejie, Trustee MBCT, expressed sincere gratitude to the Chief Guest Harveer Kaur PCS, SDM Bassi Pathana and acknowledged the presence of all dignitaries including Shiv Dutt, Advocate Amardeep Singh Dharni, Dr. Surjit Verma, and Brig. J. S. Arora. He also thanked Baldev Singh, Ex-Sarpanch Village Damheri, Parents & the Press Core for their continued support and covering and highlighting the social service activities of the Trust. He offered the Trust’s utmost gratitude to Baljit Singh, Vice Principal, ITI Bassi Pathana, for his cooperation and support to the MBCT Hockey Nursery. Trustee Thakur Mejie also thanked Chief Coach Tejinder Singh, Sr. Coach Wazir Chand and coaches Hansraj Chabra, Jasbir Singh Bajwa and Varjinder Kaur for their dedicated efforts in making the camp a success.
