The Bytewise Stakeholder Dialogue brought together educators, fact-checkers, media literacy practitioners, and students to reflect on a question that feels more urgent than ever: how are young people making sense of the information they encounter every day?

Because the challenge today is not access.
Information is everywhere, fast, constant, and often unverified. The real gap lies in the ability to pause, question, and evaluate what we see before we believe or share it.

The dialogue opened with a keynote by Mr.Syed Nazakat, Co-founder, DataLEADS, who highlighted the urgency of strengthening media literacy in an increasingly complex information ecosystem. This was followed by insights from Mr. K.S. Upadhyay, Additional Director of Education and CEO, Delhi Board of School Education (Government of NCT Delhi), who spoke about Delhi Schools and Education in the 21st Century, placing media literacy within the broader shifts in education.

The expert panel brought together Dr.Kulveen Trehan (GGSIPU), Prof. Anubhuti Yadav (IIMC), Divya Chandra (BOOM), and Titha Ghosh (Youth Ki Awaaz). The discussion reflected on the evolving challenges of misinformation, the growing influence of AI, and the need to move beyond awareness towards structured, long-term integration of media literacy in education.

But what stood out most were the student voices.

Through the student panel featuring Mayank Kushwaha (Delhi University), Niharika Singh (BVICAM, GGSIPU), Laiba Hashmi (Delhi University), Anushka (CM Shri School, Rohini), and Khushi Bisht (DMIL Senior Fellow), young people spoke clearly about what is missing. They emphasised that critical thinking is essential, that DMIL must be sustained rather than one-time, and that these are life skills that go beyond classrooms.

That shift from awareness to core competency is where the conversation is heading.

The dialogue was not about final answers. It was about aligning perspectives and recognizing that building media literacy will require collective effort, continuity, and collaboration.
More detailed insights and expert verbatims will be shared soon. Stay tuned!

AI on Air 🎙️
As conversations around grow louder, we turned to community radio stations to understand what this shift really looks like on the ground. How is AI entering their studios? What does it mean for programming, storytelling, and day-to-day work?
Across regions and languages, broadcasters are reflecting on the role technology could play in community-led media. The responses are layered, thoughtful, and rooted in lived experience.
This is not just about tools. It’s about the future of local voices in a changing media landscape.

How does community radio engage with , if at all?

We spoke to community radio stations across India about whether they use AI tools and where they draw the line.

From scripting and editing to posters and planning, some stations see AI as a way to reduce workload. Others remain cautious, especially when it comes to language, voice and on-air presence.

What came through clearly: AI is treated as a support tool, not a replacement. These reflections show that adoption isn’t uniform - and that’s the point: Community radio engages with technology on its own terms.

Many local languages and dialects are underrepresented in mainstream media.

Accents are flattened. Mixed languages are treated as incorrect. Entire communities are rarely heard in the way they actually speak.

Community radio responds by doing the opposite.

For World Radio Day 2026, under the theme Radio and AI, we spoke to community radio stations across India about how they use local dialects, accents, and mixed forms of language on air to bridge this gap.

Swipe through to hear how community radio keeps language rooted, accessible, and human.

And stay tuned for more voices from Indian community radio stations!

09/02/2026

We asked community radio stations what language they broadcast in and why it matters to their listeners. For community radio, language is about access, trust, and belonging.

As conversations around AI grow, many tools promise easy translation and wider reach. Community radio stations of India reflect on whether technology can truly carry the nuance, emotion and context of local languages and dialects.

08/02/2026

We asked community radio stations how accents, dialects, and mixed languages shape their everyday broadcasts.
The response was clear: When voices sound familiar, people listen more closely.

Local accents carry trust, emotion, and lived experience. They turn radio into a shared space, not just a transmission.
As technology evolves, these conversations remind us that connection isn’t only about reach. It’s about resonance.

As conversations around Artificial Intelligence grow louder, community radio is often left out. This World Radio Day (13 February), we’re changing that.

Through conversations with community radio stations across India, we’re listening to how they understand AI, whether they use it, question it, or choose to stay away from it altogether.
This campaign is not about right or wrong. It’s about , , , and the everyday realities of community-led radio.

Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing these reflections, directly from the people who keep community radio alive.

Stay tuned!
