"Everyone was urging me to get married, but I wanted to complete my higher education first and earn well to support my family. I asked my mother to give me half the money she had saved for my wedding and jewellery for my BEd degree," recalls Sudha.
Faced with two choices—get married or pursue higher studies—she chose the latter, using her wedding savings to fund her BEd and MSc degrees.
Despite growing up in poverty in Namakkal district, Tamil Nadu, with parents who were daily wage labourers, Sudha overcame initial struggles, to earn both BSc and MSc degrees, becoming the first in her family to graduate.
In 2011, she moved to Coimbatore with her husband, Kumar, and started working at a playschool, earning Rs 4,000 per month.
Sudha discovered her entrepreneurial spirit when her daughter refused to eat greens. She created organic powders from moringa, spinach, and mint, which gained popularity among friends and family.
With an initial investment of Rs 2,000 from her salary, she founded Iniya Organics in 2018, offering a range of health products.
Since then, Sudha has expanded Iniya Organics to offer a diverse range of over 37 varieties of podis, masalas, and health mixes.
Today, her products are in high demand, with sales exceeding 120 kg monthly, translating to over Rs 60,000 in revenue.
You can find the products stocked in 25 organic shops across Tamil Nadu and also available for purchase online.
