SIA Alumni Association Dombivli

SIA Alumni Association Dombivli An association of the Alumni of the South Indian Association's School, Jr College and Degree College

A hallmark of the South Indian Association has been the significant presence of alumni in its management which is borne out by the fact that more than a third of the Managing Committee comprises of past students of the school. Taking this level of alumni involvement to the next logical level, the SIA Alumni Association was formally created and registered as a society in March 2010. The objectives

of the alumni association, based on the concept of “Gurudakshina”, include creation of a fund corpus for meeting part of the financial needs of needy and deserving students and assisting the school in fulfilling its plans for facilities upgradation and infrastructural additions.

Teacher Training and Student Teaching Sessions

We are happy to announce that the Alumni Association, along with the School & JC administration, has taken up a project for conducting English Communication classes for students of XIth / XIIth standards who are desirous of and in need of improving their English language skills. This project is being envisaged as a yearlong and ongoing initiative wherein classes will be conducted around three days a week to impart primarily speaking and also writing skills. The Learner Centred and Activity based model of teaching will be followed. Classes will be conducted by members of the school faculty and volunteers from the alumni. In order to expose school faculty to the new teaching methods, a 10 hour teacher training workshop was conducted from April 13 to 18, 2015. The first introductory teaching session of two hours for around 40 participating students was conducted on April 28, 2015. Regular classes will be taken up after the summer vacations.
The Alumni Association invites volunteers from among the ex-students who are trained in the Learner Centred teaching techniques of the British Council (e.g those who have been teaching volunteers in the Teach India programme of The Times of India) and are desirous of participating in this project. The number of hours that you can devote will be entirely up to you and every contribution is welcome. The SIA Alumni Association
Origin and Objectives
• An idea which germinated during an informal gathering of past students in the school premises on May 9, 2008 took roots and culminated in the formal establishment of the SIA Alumni Association as a registered society in March 2010.
• The SIA Alumni Association (SIAAA) has been formed based on the concept of “GURUDAKSHINA”, that is, giving back to the alma mater in whatever form and means possible, as a small token of gratitude for the immeasurable wealth of knowledge and character that the alumni have received from her.
• Based on this guiding principle, the association had adopted a set of objectives, including, but not limited to:
i. Instituting of scholarships on merit and merit-cum-means criteria
ii. Extending financial and other assistance to the school with respect to specific items of major capital expenditure like library upgrading etc
iii. Conducting career counseling sessions and programmes
iv. Conducting seminars / symposiums on “beyond syllabus” topics of interest for students.
