Religious and spiritual spaces have long embodied principles of harmony with nature. In recent years, however, the increasing presence of plastic-packaged items in ritual offerings has prompted reflection on its impact on the health of our environment, our communities, and the continuity of traditional practices.

This workshop aims to create a respectful and inclusive platform for dialogue among religious leaders and religious societies, community representatives, self-help groups, district administration, relevant government departments, institutions, and civil society organisations, to collectively reflect on pathways for returning to natural, plastic-free offerings while honouring faith, tradition, and local practices.

On World Environment Day today, Sangti Valley came together for the Himalayan Cleanup 2025—an inspiring day of collective action where villagers, students, ITBP jawans, and volunteers joined hands to clean their rivers, reflect on waste, and hold brands accountable. This zero-waste cleanup wasn’t just about picking litter—it was about reclaiming responsibility for our mountains.

Thank you, Hon’ble CM Shri ji, for acknowledging our efforts. It is a great honor to be mentioned by the Hon’ble PM ji in .
I am deeply grateful to the people of Sangti and the West Kameng district administration for their cooperation and trust in this journey. Together, we have shown the power of community-driven change.
Looking forward to expanding this impact and working with more villages and towns in Arunachal Pradesh to promote sustainable practices and zero-waste models.

Good News 📢📢
So, Project Sangti got featured on a national daily for the first time. It's a big thing for us. Yes, you will still find some amount of littering prevalent in Sangti but countless clean ups have happened since 2020 and still happens on 8th of every month. The village has a fully operational Material Recovery Facility run by the women of the village, there is a Waste Management Committee making collection of dry waste and channelizing of recyclables possible, there are Waste Management Rules prescribed by the Gaon Buras and the Gram Panchayat yet you will find some amount of littering still happening. Point being what we are trying to do is not easy and behavioral change takes time. We have come a long way but still have a long way to go. Grateful to for considering our efforts worth sharing.

Celebrating the Unsung Heroes of Sangti this Women's Day

Today, on International Women's Day, we take a moment to shine a spotlight on the incredible women of Sangti who are the backbone of our community's waste management system. In a village nestled amidst the mountains, with challenges of remoteness and a dearth of local recycling infrastructure, these 100 Self-Help Group (SHG) women have taken on the formidable task of segregating the dry waste generated by approximately 1500 villagers.
Their dedication and selflessness are the driving forces behind the success of our community-led waste management model. Despite the odds stacked against them, they persevere, ensuring that Sangti remains unspoiled in the face of increasing amounts of waste.

Their efforts not only keep our surroundings pristine but also inspire us all to strive for a better, greener tomorrow. Today, let's extend our heartfelt gratitude to these remarkable women who embody the true spirit of empowerment and community service.

Happy Women's Day to the phenomenal women of Sangti!
