On 7th September 2026, the EIACP PC Hub, Nagaland Pollution Control Board, organised an Awareness Programme under Mission LiFE on account of International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies at Modern College, Piphema, Chümoukedima District, Nagaland.
The programme was chaired by Mr. Keneingulie, Coordinator, IQAC, Modern College. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Vitsou Yano, Principal, Modern College while the vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Keleseno, GS, Modern College Student Union.
As part of the observance of the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, Ms. Khriehunuo Rutsa, Programme Officer, EIACP, delivered a PowerPoint presentation focusing on the theme “Clean Air for Climate Action”.
She highlighted the health impacts of air pollution, noting that it was responsible for approximately 1.7 million deaths in India in 2019, according to a Lancet report published by Down To Earth publication.
The presentation covered the definition and sources of air pollution, methods of monitoring air quality, and major Government of India initiatives such as the National Air Quality Monitoring Programme (NAMP). She discussed the effects of air pollution on human health throughout the course of life and measures for its prevention and control.
The session also focused on the importance of solid waste management, the waste management scenario in Nagaland, and regulations concerning the open burning of waste, including the new salient features of the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 and explained the importance of proper waste segregation and the use of four separate bins for dry waste, wet waste, special-care waste, and sanitary waste
She emphasised the directions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on waste management and environmental protection. The presentation concluded with practical approaches to waste management and the concept of “Waste to Wealth”, with eco-bricks highlighted as one example of converting waste into a useful resource.
A short video highlighting the effects of air pollution was also shown to the participants.
Mrs. Lashikali Chishi, Information Officer, EIACP, delivered a presentation on Mission LiFE, highlighting its objectives and elaborating on the seven themes associated with the initiative. This was followed by a pledge-taking session involving all participants and teaching staff. A short video on Mission LiFE was also screened for the students to further enhance their understanding of the initiative and its objectives.
A drawing competition under the theme “From Grey Skies to Blue Skies” was conducted.
The winners of the Drawing Competition were awarded cash prizes along with certificates. The winners are as follows:
