Gunfight Between NSCN-IM and ZUF Cadres Leaves Three Dead in Tamenglong.

Tamenglong, March 9 — A gunfight broke out early Monday morning at Taodaijang village under Nungba Police Station in Manipur’s Tamenglong district following an exchange of fire between cadres of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) and the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF).
According to local reports, the clash occurred in the Toudaijang area where armed members of both groups were reportedly involved in a brief but intense exchange of gunfire.
Village authorities later confirmed that three cadres of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) were killed in the incident. The circumstances that led to the confrontation remain unclear at this stage.
Sources from the locality stated that the situation in and around Taodaijang village remains tense as residents continue to monitor developments. Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.

CBI Court Frames Charges Against Six Meitei Men in Manipur Gang-r**e Case.

Guwahati: Jan 9, 2026.
A special CBI judge in Guwahati has framed charges against six Meitei men for their alleged roles in a brutal episode of Manipur's ethnic violence. The incident involved three Kuki women being stripped naked and paraded, two of them allegedly gang-r**ed in broad daylight, and two relatives of one victim killed on May 4, 2023.

The six accused are Huirem Herodash Meitei, Ningombam Tomba Singh alias Tomthin, Yumlembam Jiban Singh alias Naocha alias Sana, Pukhrihongbam Suranjoy Meitei, Arun Khundongbam alias Nanao, and Nameirakpam Kiran Meitei. They face 15 charges, including gang r**e, murder and rioting.

According to case records, the victims fled into the forest fearing for their lives but were intercepted by a violent mob near Toubul. The mob allegedly killed the father of one victim and forced the women to strip naked. Two women were allegedly gang-r**ed, and one victim's brother was killed trying to defend her.

CBI prosecutor, Swayamjeet Sharma, stated that the investigation revealed strong prima facie evidence against the accused. The agency collected material to support charges mentioned in the chargesheet.

The court directed four accused to be transferred to Guwahati jail and ordered all six to appear in person on January 16 to sign charges.

The incident sparked nationwide outrage after a video surfaced on social media. The CBI is probing multiple cases linked to Manipur's unrest, including 19 involving crimes against women.

Delhi ASI Suspended for Allegedly Molesting Northeast Woman in Maharani Bagh

A Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has been suspended after being accused of molesting a young woman from the Northeast in the Ashram Maharani Bagh area on Saturday morning.

The officer, identified as ASI Virandar Kumar of Ashram Police Station, allegedly entered a shop near Jeewan Hospital around 10 AM in search of alcohol, despite not having a warrant. When the woman present at the shop objected, he reportedly ignored her protest, conducted the search, and allegedly grabbed her face and touched her inappropriately.

The incident left the victim traumatised and sparked outrage among members of the Northeast community in Delhi. Representatives gathered at the local police station demanding a formal FIR and strict legal action against the accused officer.

Community leaders later met the ACP of Lajpat Nagar, who confirmed that the officer has been suspended pending an inquiry. At the time of reporting, no FIR had yet been registered.

The incident has reignited concerns among Northeast students and residents in the capital, who argue that such cases erode trust in law enforcement and highlight the need for greater accountability and protection for vulnerable groups.

Student Assaulted in Purana Bazaar; Police Apprehend Suspects.

Dimapur, August 17:
An unfortunate incident unfolded at Purana Bazaar last night when a group of youths allegedly assaulted a student, leaving him with multiple facial injuries and other wounds.

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants operating in a gang-like manner were overpowered by bystanders before being handed over to the police. They were later taken to East Police Station, where an FIR was lodged around 3 a.m. The police have since taken the accused into custody for further investigation.

Reports indicate that some of the group members bore suspicious tattoos, including the number “666,” raising concerns about gang-style behavior. Among the detained individuals, one was reportedly a non-local youth.
