Lahorijan:A devastating fire broke out at Lahorijan Bazar around 9:00 PM on Wednesday night, June 2nd, completely gutting several vegetable and fruit vendor stalls. The inferno affected around 15 vendors, causing heavy losses to their livelihood and destroying large quantities of fruits, vegetables, and wooden stall structures.

Firefighters from the neighbouring state of Nagaland, stationed in Dimapur, rushed to the spot and began firefighting operations promptly. Firefighters from Bokajan also arrived and assisted in bringing the fire under control after continuous efforts, preventing the blaze from spreading to nearby shops and residential areas.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and local authorities are investigating the incident. No casualties have been reported, but the loss has caused distress among the small vendors who depended on the market for their daily earnings.

Lahorijan: In a major drug bust, authorities seized 5 boxes of he**in, weighing a total of 60.64 grams, from a Bolero SUV at the Assam-Nagaland border gate at Lahorijan. The seizure occurred during a regular naka checking at approximately 09:00 AM on 30th June 2025.

The operation was carried out by a team of police officials, led by Khatkhati Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nitul Sakia. The police team included Sub-Inspector (SI) Biman Chetia, SI Jitumoni Saikia, Circle Inspector (CI) Bipul Saikia, and SDPO Rustom Raj. The law enforcement officers intercepted the vehicle, bearing registration number AS01DV5575, during the routine check and discovered the he**in hidden in the vehicle.

Two individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure. They have been identified as Mrs. Kina Zeliang, aged 49 years, and Mr. Krichangdin, aged 50 years. The duo is currently in police custody and is being interrogated to ascertain further details regarding the source and destination of the illegal narcotics.

A spokesperson for the police stated, β€œThis successful operation is a significant step towards controlling drug trafficking in the region. We remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our communities by taking stern action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.”

The Bolero was seized as part of the ongoing efforts by the Assam Police to curb the growing menace of drug trafficking, particularly along the Assam-Nagaland border, which has been identified as a hotspot for the illicit trade.

The arrested individuals are expected to face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with further investigations underway.

The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking or other criminal activities in the region.

Awareness Generation Program Against Illicit Drugs and Substance Abuse Held in Border Area

Lahorijan , December 9, 2024: In a collective effort to combat the menace of illicit drugs and substance abuse in border areas, YUVA SANSTHA CLUB and Nagrik Committee Khatkhati PS, under the initiative of the Committee on Social Economic & Health Development (COSEHDA), organized an awareness generation program.

The event was held with the active participation of community stakeholders, including students from Martha Simon High School, ASHA workers, representatives from other NGOs, Village Defense Party (VDP) members, and the general public.

Smt. Debahuti Borah, ADC/SDO (Civil), Bokajan, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In her address, she emphasized the critical need for community involvement in curbing the growing problem of drug abuse in border regions. She urged all present to be vigilant and proactive in creating a drug-free society.

Expert panelists from Nagaland conducted interactive sessions, shedding light on the severe social, economic, and health impacts of drug abuse. They discussed preventive measures, treatment options, and the role of community vigilance in reducing drug-related issues.

The program featured skits, speeches, and educational presentations aimed at spreading awareness among youth and vulnerable groups. Participants expressed their commitment to working collectively to combat the problem.

The initiative concluded with a pledge by all attendees to support anti-drug campaigns and create a safer and healthier environment in the region.
