Press Release Condemnation On Sexual Assault Case Of A Minor Girl At Dimapur
The International Human Rights council – Nagaland State Chapter, is shocked and deeply anguished at the latest ongoing news about the alleged sexual assault and r**e of a 14 year old minor Naga girl in Dimapur, allegedly by an accused Watimeren Jamir.
We, extend our solidarity with the victim and her family, and condemns this incident in the strongest terms.
The incident like this has indeed shaken the conscience of our Naga Society, where cases like this are deeply disturbing and have left many in shock.
Our young minor (girl) children’s deserve safety, dignity and protection.
We appeal to the law enforcing agencies that are handling this case, that justice must not be delayed. We urged the District Administration and law enforcement agencies to act and handle the case on fast track and in a transparent process, so that justice is delivered to the victim at the earliest.
Sensing the seriousness of the matter, the IHRC Nagaland State reiterates our commitment to stand for the rights and safety of the victim.
A minor girl of her age of being a victim of r**e and molestation case, will not properly understand the long term trauma and anxiety, yet she is and will be force to face the trauma and anxiety for the rest of her life. When she grows older and begins to understand of what had happened - the psychological impact can even become more painful.
It can also effect her sense of safety and trust for the rest of her life – making her question people around her, wondering who she can trust. Trauma and anxiety are not things to be taken lightly. At such an age when she should be enjoying the beauty and colors of life, she may instead struggle to understand the pain and fear.
The victim truly deserve justice, as this case can be a test for the administration and law enforcing agencies of how they are committed and capable - they are, in handling such serious cases like this particular case.
The authorities must ensure that people do not feel helpless, and that the public can trust them to act fairly and responsibly. Justice in cases like this will not only support the victim, but also strengthen people’s faith in the system.
The IHRC, Nagaland State Chapter, urges that , urgent steps must be taken to bring the perpetrators to immediate justice.
We also remember the victims family in our prayers for a speedy recovery and call upon the concerned authorities to ensure the best possible medical attention be given along with whatever compensation is needed to be provided by the State Government.
The IHRC Nagaland State Chapter appreciates the swift actions of Dimapur Police in arresting the second alleged accused identified as Tsuktimongba in connection with the alleged sexual assault related to the case. We also appreciate the decisions made by the local Court in denying anticipatory bail to the main accused, as these have been the cry and demands of all Civil Society Pressure Groups.
As a civilised Society,we must introspect at the erosion of values and the repeated failure to ensure the security of our women and children. The society as a whole must indentify the causes and find solutions for such criminal depravity in our midst.
Let us pledge to put all our energy and effort into ensuring that aberrations which stain our moral fibre and standing as a society is prevented .
