DNSU Strongly Questions and Rejects HCHSS Staff’s Claim Terming DNSU Intervention Inappropriate and an Unrelated Body
The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) strongly questions and rejects the claim made by certain staff of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School (HCHSS) describing the Union’s intervention as inappropriate and unrelated. The Union welcomes and will continue to welcome aggrieved parents and students on issues faced within its jurisdiction, irrespective of whether the concerned institution approves or not.
DNSU intervened in the recent matter solely to ascertain facts and act as a mediator so that the issue could be resolved amicably. The matter was settled peacefully through mutual understanding. Therefore, any attempt to escalate the situation after a resolution raises doubts about underlying intentions. While some concerns raised by parents were genuine, DNSU exercised restraint and worked responsibly to calm an already sensitive situation.
The Union believes that institutions unwilling to cooperate with DNSU in the interest of fairness, accountability, and transparency only create doubts about their own intentions. Institutions functioning within our jurisdiction must understand that DNSU will intervene whenever necessary to safeguard student interests.
The issue in question was minor and could have been addressed internally by the school management. DNSU stepped in only after the matter entered the public domain and did so in good faith to facilitate an amicable settlement. The institution’s reputation was not tarnished, as the matter had already been resolved.
In fact, the situation escalated primarily due to poor communication and the alleged rude behaviour of certain members of the institution’s management, including asking parents to take transfer certificates merely for raising concerns. Not all parents are highly educated, and it remains the responsibility of educators to patiently explain matters for the betterment of students. Every parent ultimately seeks a better academic future for their child.
