October 30th, 2025 will always be etched in our hearts. 🌈✨
Dibrugarh University marked a historic moment by hosting a q***r film screening at the Ranghar Auditorium. The film, Jonaki Porua – Fireflies, celebrated as the first q***r-themed Assamese film, was organised by Sotiyona – A Q***r Collective in collaboration with the Dibrugarh University Research Scholar Association (DURSA); marking a crucial milestone in the lead-up to Dibrugarh Pride 2025
Having Milin Dutta () with us — trailblazing q***r activist, environmentalist, founder of Anajoree, and producer of the film — made the evening even more meaningful. The screening was followed by an engaging Q&A session that allowed students, scholars, and community members to reflect, question, and connect.
This wasn’t just a film screening.
It was history.
For the University — it marked a step toward inclusive academic and cultural spaces.
For students — it created room for conversations many have longed to have.
For the q***r community — it was visibility, affirmation, and representation in our own language and landscape.
And for us at Sotiyona — it was a milestone born from months of persistence, negotiation, hope, and collective labour.
We are deeply grateful to our collaborator DURSA and Anaajoree () for believing in this vision and standing with us. Partnerships like these make change possible.
A special, heartfelt thank you to Pinky (), our primary coordinator, who worked tirelessly at the grassroots to make this event happen. Your dedication and strength carried this forward.
And to every single member of Sotiyona — this success belongs to all of us. Every meeting, every call, every small effort built this beautiful evening.
It was truly a lovely gathering, celebrating storytelling, identity, resistance, and community under one roof. 🕯️✨
Here’s to many more fireflies lighting up our campus.
