Supporting Children’s Education in Tea Garden and Riverine (Char)Communities 📚🌱

Counselling and support are being provided to children who frequently remain absent from school in the Tea Garden and riverine (Char) communities. With support from NFI, ESPT is working to reduce school absenteeism and dropout rates and encourage children to continue their education and build a brighter future.

🌟 Empowering Adolescents Begins with Knowledge, Confidence and Care!
ESPT organised a two-day training on Personal Hygiene and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) for our project staff on 24–25 August 2026 at the ESPT office premises. The training was facilitated by Ms. Meghna Gogoi from Roots to Branches Foundation, Guwahati, using an interactive and practical manual developed for working with adolescents aged 10 years and above. The sessions covered important topics including gender and s*x, personal hygiene, puberty, menstrual health, nutrition, adolescence, personal safety, and SRHR. The training strengthened our team's knowledge, facilitation skills, and confidence to create safe, respectful, inclusive, and supportive learning spaces for adolescents. 🙏 A heartfelt thanks to Roots to Branches Foundation and Ms. Meghna Gogoi for their valuable support and for developing such a meaningful and useful manual.

Closing Ceremony of ESPT's Month-Long Summer Camp 2026:
Today, Eco-System Protection Trust (ESPT) successfully concluded its month-long Summer Camp 2026, bringing together children from Hasdoba and Choslapara Tea Garden villages for a joyful and enriching learning experience.
The summer camp was designed to nurture the overall development of children through a variety of engaging activities, including games, creative art and craft, storytelling, cultural performances, group discussions, and interactive learning sessions. These activities encouraged children to develop essential life skills while learning in a fun and inclusive environment.
Throughout the programme, special emphasis was placed on personality development, peer learning, teamwork, leadership, self-confidence, creativity, and gender equality. The camp also provided a safe space where children could express themselves freely, build friendships, and learn the values of mutual respect, cooperation, and inclusion.
A total of 42 children actively participated in the month-long camp, making it a vibrant and memorable experience for everyone involved. The Closing Ceremony celebrated the children's achievements, showcased their talents through cultural performances and creative displays, and recognized their enthusiastic participation.
ESPT extends its heartfelt gratitude to the National Foundation for India (NFI) for its valuable support, as well as to the parents, community members, volunteers, and facilitators whose encouragement and commitment made this initiative a great success.
Together, we continue to empower children with confidence, creativity, and the skills they need to build a brighter future.

Miss Juli Brahma from the National Foundation for India (NFI) visited ESPT and its project field areas on 30th June 2026. During her visit, she interacted extensively with our project staff, students, teachers, School Management Committee (SMC) members, and community members.
She devoted considerable time to engaging with various stakeholders to gain a deeper understanding of the key challenges affecting children in the tea garden areas, including school absenteeism, health-related issues, and other socio-economic factors. The discussions focused not only on identifying the root causes of these challenges but also on exploring practical and sustainable solutions.
During her meeting with the ESPT leadership team and project staff, we shared the various initiatives being implemented under the Bandhutva CSO Resilient Grant Project, supported by the National Foundation for India (NFI). We highlighted our ongoing efforts to improve the well-being, education, health, and overall development of children and communities across our project villages through a participatory and community-driven approach.
We are pleased that Miss Juli Brahma appreciated our grassroots initiatives, systematic implementation process, meticulous record-keeping, and well-maintained project documentation. Her valuable observations, encouragement, and constructive feedback have further inspired our team to continue working with greater dedication towards creating lasting and meaningful change in the lives of children and marginalized communities.

On 27th May 2026, we were delighted to welcome Sujata Noronha (Founder,Bookworm), Anindita, and Samantha from Bookworms, Goa, along with Meghna from Root To Branches, to ESPT’s Office-cum-Children’s Library & Learning Centre, Chapar (Dhubri) and the Durgi Bhumij Community Library at Chagolkhuti, Chapar Tea Estate. During their visit, they interacted with ESPT staff, children, and community members, learning about the organization’s ongoing initiatives, especially the library and learning activities being carried out in the community. The team also spent meaningful and joyful moments with the children at the Durgi Bhumij Community Library through engaging library activities, interactive sessions, and fun games. Their presence and participation brought smiles, laughter, and encouragement to the young learners. We sincerely thank them for taking the time to visit, connect, and support the spirit of community learning and children’s development.

Today, Eco-System Protection Trust (ESPT) proudly inaugurated the Children’s Library cm Learning Centre at our office premises in Kazipara, Chapar. The library was inaugurated by Mr. Moinul Houque Choudhary, Retired Superintendent Engineer, Oil India Limited (OIL), Duliajan, and social worker, in the presence of Mr. Bulu Chandra Das, Head Teacher of 1879 No. Kazipara LP School. Community members, ESPT volunteers, and children enthusiastically participated in the opening ceremony. During his speech, Mr. Choudhary appreciated the efforts of ESPT and encouraged children to visit the library regularly and develop reading habits. On behalf of ESPT, Mr. Abhijit Kalita expressed gratitude to all present and warmly invited children to make the library a joyful space for learning and growth. Together, we hope to nurture curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning among children.
