What if livelihood development could go beyond creating income and build an ecosystem where women become farmers, entrepreneurs and decision-makers?

This was the vision behind the livelihood intervention across 10 Sahariya-dominated villages, supporting ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿณ ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€ through an integrated, women-centric approach connecting skills, productive assets, sustainable agriculture, enterprise development and markets.

The project supported women through FIGs, technical training, mentoring and continuous handholding, leading to the establishment of Machan vegetable farms, Vermicompost Units, Nurseries, Bio-Resource Centres, Vegetable Shops and Vegetable Procurement Centres, along with Aajeevika Sakhis serving as local resource persons.

During the recent visit of Jaivir Singh, Vice-Chairman of PwC India Foundation interacted with women farmers and entrepreneur and rightly observed that the next step is to work closely with individual women farmers who have achieved relatively stable incomes and understand how their existing enterprises can be strengthened to unlock greater income potential.

Can vermicompost production be expanded?
Can infrastructure be made more permanent and affordable?
Can vegetable centres serve a wider customer base?
And how many more women from the same villages can be brought into similar opportunities?

These questions shift the focus from simply creating livelihood assets to At Apni Saheli Producer Company Limited (ASPCL), Saheli Pashu Aahar Unit, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, women entrepreneurs are steadily transforming their enterprise with the continuous support of Capri Loans.

With strengthened production capacity, improved market linkages, and continuous cattle feed production, the unit has been able to scale its operations and increase the monthly average income of Sakhis. True empowerment is not about handouts; it is about building capability.๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’š

At Manjari Foundation , in partnership with CARE Today Fund and TV Today, our mission has always been anchored in a singular, powerful belief "sustainable development must begin at the last mile." ๐ŸŒพ

For the Sahariya community, recognized as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group in the flood-affected terrains of Shahabad, Baran, Rajasthan, the challenges of climate vulnerability and restricted resources have historically run deep. Through our collaborative project, โ€œLivelihood Development and Socio-Economic Empowerment,โ€ we are not just providing relief; we are co-creating a self-sustaining, community-led ecosystem.

At the heart of this transformation are two newly established BRCs, that have emerged as vital community hubs, driving both environmental sustainability and local entrepreneurship๐Ÿšœ๐ŸŒฑ

Managed directly by local micro-entrepreneurs, these centres have successfully bridged the gap between traditional wisdom and modern organic practices:

โ— Access to Green Inputs: Farmers now have direct, localized access to high-quality organic solutions like Jeevamrit, Ghan Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Neemastra, Brahmastra, and premium vegetable seeds. Because of these BRCs, farmers no longer need to purchase seeds from the outside, making the entire system deeply sustainable.
โ— Health and Soil Regeneration: The transition to chemical-free farming is improving soil health, boosting long-term crop productivity.
โ— Local Enterprise and Income: The community members managing these BRCs have already generated โ‚น14,165 through initial sales, a figure set to rise rapidly as the new agricultural season commences.

Till now, 85 Machan farmers and 96 kitchen gardeners have been actively integrated with
these BRCs, establishing a thriving local market for green inputs.๐Ÿค

A new journey towards digital empowerment has started in Jhabua district, Madhya Pradesh under the Digital Sakhi Project implemented by Manjari Foundation and supported by L&T Finance.

As part of the project, a 3-day residential training program was organized at KVK Jhabua (M.P.) for the newly selected Digital Sakhis of Petlawad Block. A total of 39 Digital Sakhis participated in the training, where they received project orientation, understood their roles and responsibilities, and strengthened their digital skills for effective implementation of project activities at the village level.

Through this initiative, Digital Sakhis will work as local digital champions, helping communities access information, services, and opportunities through technology. ๐Ÿ’ป๐ŸŒพ

โ€œTrue sustainability is achieved when a village stops buying its future from the outside and starts cultivating it right from their own soil.โ€๐ŸŒพโœจ

In partnership with Care Today Fund , under our collaborative project, 5 Vermicompost Units (each consisting of two vermi beds) have been successfully established. While arranging sufficient cow dung initially posed a challenge, resourcefulness quickly took over. By linking the unit managers with 17 other local farmers for a steady supply of cow dung, we created a collaborative raw-material network that has kept the beds functioning seamlessly.

With the first production cycle now successfully completed, these units are transforming organic
waste into wealth, boosting local incomes, and driving agricultural resilience: ๐Ÿšœ๐ŸŒฑ

โ— Continuous and Sustainable Production: The first harvest is complete, and preparation for the second cycle is already underway. Taking advantage of the current post-harvest season, farmers are easily collecting dung from open grazing fields, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of raw materials.

โ— Robust Market Integration: To facilitate timely sales and strengthen the local ecosystem, these vermicompost producers have been directly linked with Machan farmers for field application, as well as two Bio-Resource Centres (BRCs) and two Agri Input Kiosks for broader marketing.

โ— Direct Income Generation: This circular intervention has already generated โ‚น9,100 through initial sales, turning a simple agricultural byproduct into a steady, lucrative
source of income for tribal families.

By linking local cattle owners, compost producers, and Machan farmers, this intervention has created a closed-loop, self-sustaining village economy that no longer relies on external chemical fertilizers.

๐ŸŒธ A Day of Learning, Connection, and Inspiration๐ŸŒธ

Manjari Foundation was delighted to welcome Genpact Global CSR Leader, Rachna, to our Dangiyawas Textile Centre in Jodhpur during her recent visit. More than a project review, the visit was a meaningful opportunity for dialogue, shared learning, and celebrating the strength of women-led livelihoods.

Rachna spent time with our women artisans, listened to their journeys, witnessed their skills firsthand, and experienced the dedication, creativity, and resilience behind every handcrafted product.

The Genpact team interacted with our G-Sakhi Didis and reviewed the progress of the ongoing initiative, discussing its impact, future opportunities, and pathways for sustainable growth. These conversations reaffirmed the power of collaboration in creating lasting change for rural women and their communities.

The team also explored our textile collections and handcrafted products, appreciating the remarkable artistry of our artisans and supporting them through direct purchases.

We are deeply grateful to Genpact for its continued partnership, encouragement, and commitment to strengthening women's livelihoods. Together, we are enabling opportunities, nurturing confidence, and building a more inclusive and sustainable future.

โ€œEmpowerment isn't just about teaching a community how to grow; itโ€™s about ensuring the harvest puts financial security directly into their hands.โ€๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’š

At Manjari Foundation, in partnership with CARE Today Fund and TV Today, we believe that true transformation happens when communities are equipped with the skills and resources to drive their own growth. ๐ŸŒพโœจ

As a new and innovative concept for many farmers in Baran, the nursery intervention has taken deep root in 3 villages. These three newly established nursery units are now functioning effectively and are being successfully managed by the selected local beneficiaries themselves. Backed by regular handholding support and technical guidance from Aajeevika Sakhis and our project team, these micro-entrepreneurs are rapidly strengthening their nursery management skills and enterprise operations.

These nurseries are not just promoting the use of healthy, quality planting material, they are directly increasing farmers' income and putting hard-earned money straight into their hands:
โ— High-Quality Production: The nursery entrepreneurs are successfully producing and
selling premium, resilient seedlings for high-yield crops like chilli, tomato, and brinjal.
โ— Market Access and Demand: To ensure timely sales, these entrepreneurs have been
directly linked with 85 Machan farmers as well as growers from nearby villages.
Aajeevika Sakhis actively build local demand by sharing availability and the benefits of
quality seedlings during PoP training sessions and monthly FIG meetings.
โ— Direct Financial Impact: By creating a thriving local supply chain, the beneficiaries
managing these enterprises have already generated a collective income of โ‚น37,545,
putting immediate financial returns into the hands of tribal families and establishing a
highly sustainable source of livelihood.
By transforming local farmers into successful nursery entrepreneurs, this intervention is ensuring that the community no longer relies on external suppliers, keeping both wealth and agricultural resilience within the villages.
