Samajik Seva Sadan In 1982, Ms. Veronica Dung Dung started a school under a Kusum tree, leading to the formation of Samajik Seva Sadan.

By 1985, SSS expanded to 16 villages, supporting marginalized communities.

"Inauguration of Paddy Processing Unit at Karamdihi "

A new step towards value addition, better income opportunities and women’s economic empowerment was taken with the inauguration of the Paddy Processing Unit at Karamdihi Gram Panchayat.
The unit was inaugurated by Sarpanch Ms. Suchita Kujur, Karamdihi Gram Panchayat, marking an important milestone in strengthening local agricultural livelihoods and promoting collective enterprise among Self-Help Group (SHG) members.
The Paddy Processing Unit will support SHG members and local farmers by enabling local processing, packaging and marketing of rice. The Women Farmers Producers Company (WFPC) will manage the unit. Paddy will be procured from individual farmers and processed in bulk, creating opportunities for value addition and improved collective earnings.
Through this initiative, SHG members will gain practical experience in paddy processing, packaging, branding and marketing, while local farmers will have an additional opportunity to receive better value for their produce.

Promoting Natural Crop Protection through Nimastra & Agnastra!

As the cultivation season is underway, farmers at Geetapada Village, Karamdihi, Subdega Block are adopting natural and eco-friendly methods to protect their crops and vegetables from different insect pests.
Through a hands-on demonstration, farmers learned to prepare two traditional biopesticides — Nimastra and Agnastra — using locally available natural resources such as neem leaves, cow urine, cow dung and other botanical ingredients.

1- Agnastra: Agnastra is prepared using locally available natural ingredients, including neem leaves, cow urine, garlic, to***co and chilli. The preparation is fermented and filtered before being applied to crops. It can be used as a natural pest-management solution to help control different insect pests affecting agricultural crops and vegetables.

2-Nimastra : Nimastra is prepared using natural ingredients like neem leaves, cow dung and cow urine. After proper preparation and fermentation, the solution is filtered and used for crop protection. It helps farmers manage insect pests naturally and encourages reduced dependence on chemical pesticides.

🌱🐟 From a Village Pond to a Community’s Future – Sindiriapada’s Collective Fishery Journey

The community of Sindiriapada village, Bargaon Block, Sundargarh, is demonstrating how collective action can transform local resources into sustainable livelihood opportunities.

With facilitation and capacity-building support from Samajik Seva Sadan (SSS) under the PSLO Project, the community took a Government pond on a three-year lease to develop a collective fishery initiative.

As part of this effort, community members came together to release 9 kg of fingerlings of four varieties—Red Rohi, Magur, Roopchand and Rohi—into the village pond.

A particularly inspiring aspect of the activity was the active participation of the village mothers, who lovingly carried the fingerling containers to the pond and released the fish with care and affection. Their involvement reflected a strong sense of ownership, unity and collective responsibility towards this shared community resource.

Sindiriapada’s collective fishery highlights the power of community ownership, women’s participation and collective decision-making in creating sustainable livelihood opportunities and strengthening rural communities.

🌾 Traditional Paddy – A Climate-Resilient Kharif Crop 🌱
This Kharif season, traditional paddy seeds were provided to farmers in the target villages of Bargaon Block, Sundargarh, to promote climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture.

The initiative supports farmers in cultivating locally adapted traditional paddy varieties, while conserving indigenous seeds and traditional farming knowledge. It also contributes to food security, biodiversity conservation and improved resilience to changing climatic conditions.

These are some glimpses of the beneficiary farmers who received traditional paddy seeds and are participating in this climate-resilient agriculture initiative.

🌿 BMZ Project Field Visit & Staff Meeting | 16–18 August 2026 🌿

Samajik Seva Sadan (SSS) organized a three-day BMZ Project field visit led by Mr. Raj Kumar Toppo, Technical Specialist – Programme Management, CPA, across the project villages of Kansbahal, Chukupada and Bichna in Bargaon Block, Sundargarh District.

The visit focused on reviewing ongoing project activities, interacting with community members and beneficiaries and understanding the progress, achievements and challenges at the field level.

🌿 Strengthening Community Governance Through Capacity Building 🌿

Strong communities begin with informed and empowered local leaders.

Samajik Seva Sadan (SSS) successfully conducted a 2-day Capacity Building Training for Village Management Committee and Gram Sabha leaders at Tiklipada and Jharmunda villages, Bargaon Block, under the PSLO Project.

A total of 85 VMC members and Gram Sabha leaders participated in the training, gaining practical knowledge and skills to strengthen grassroots governance and community-led development.

The sessions covered key topics including village monitoring systems, community resources, roles and responsibilities of community institutions, stakeholder identification, effective communication and participatory leadership. Through social and resource mapping, group discussions and interactive exercises, participants identified local challenges and developed community action plans to address them.

The training empowered participants to play a more active role in village planning, monitoring development initiatives, ensuring transparency and accountability, and fostering collective decision-making. It marks another step towards building strong, self-reliant, and inclusive communities where local institutions lead sustainable development.

🌱 77th Van Mahotsav 2026 | Tree Plantation Drive by Samajik Seva Sadan 🌿

In celebration of the 77th Van Mahotsav 2026, Samajik Seva Sadan (SSS) organized a tree plantation drive at Kansbahal Village under Rungaon Gram Panchayat, Sundargarh District. The initiative was aimed at promoting environmental conservation and encouraging communities to take collective action for a greener and healthier future.

Carrying forward the message, "Plant Trees, Save the Environment," community members from more than 10 villages across Rungaon, Sahajbahal and Barangakachhar Gram Panchayats came together to plant over 1,050 saplings of various species. The programme also created awareness about the importance of tree plantation, environmental protection, biodiversity and the value of medicinal plants in maintaining ecological balance and improving community well-being.

We were privileged to welcome Ms. Laura Bogani, a volunteer from France, as the Chief Guest, and Mrs. Asisan Kerketta, Sarpanch of Rungaon Gram Panchayat, as the Guest of Honour. The event was also graced by Mr. Emmanuel Pathil, Director of Samajik Seva Sadan, Mrs. Veronica Dungdung, Secretary, along with staff members and local community members, whose enthusiastic participation made the programme truly meaningful.

Self-Discovery, Leadership & Learning !

We successfully organized another two-day Extracurricular Programme at Jharmunda (Girjapada), Bargaon Block, bringing together around 70 enthusiastic students from Classes IX–XII for a journey of learning, leadership and self-discovery.

The programme focused on promoting self-awareness, emotional wellbeing, leadership development, teamwork and personal growth through interactive sessions, group discussions, experiential learning activities, storytelling, quizzes and cultural activities.

Students explored important life skills through sessions on:

✨ Discover Yourself – Understanding personal identity, emotions, strengths, talents and aspirations
🌱 Building Leadership Skills – Communication, teamwork, problem-solving, decision-making, responsibility and leading with empathy and integrity

🌟 Two Days of Learning, Creativity & Fun at Jharmunda (Girjapada) Bargaon Block ! 🌟

Samajik Seva Sadan (SSS) successfully organized a two-day Extracurricular Programme under the PSLO Project at Jharmunda, Girjapada, Bargaon Block, where 127 children from Classes III–VIII enthusiastically participated.

The programme focused on promoting healthy friendships, teamwork, emotional wellbeing, and personal safety awareness through interactive sessions, group discussions, storytelling, quizzes, action songs, and various learning activities.

Children also showcased their creativity, knowledge, and talents through:

🎨 Drawing Competition on Adivasi Festivals and Traditional Practices
🌿 Exhibition Presentations on edible plants, medicinal resources, and traditional knowledge
🎵 Individual and Group Song & Instrument Performances
📖 Storytelling and Picture Observation Activities

The programme provided an enriching platform for children to learn beyond the classroom, build confidence, strengthen life skills, and celebrate their cultural heritage. It was inspiring to witness the enthusiasm, creativity, and active participation of every child throughout the two days.
