Every one of you, in your heart, has some strong desire. Some want to get married, others want money or job. Some want healing. Some want to fulfil artistic ambitions. Meanwhile, every day, life is creeping forward. What are you doing besides wishing? Are you progressing spiritually or are you merely being swept along toward death? Analyze yourself; analyze your life. Like a child, you cry for so many things that you never will find. Why don't you try crying and yearning for God? Of course, a mere show of devotion won't do; He knows what you are thinking. But if you really cry for Him, the Lord will come to you, sometime, without fail.

To transmit God's consciousness you do not have to talk much; just feel it, and automatically those around you will be uplifted. Do not seek the acclaim and testimony of man, but the testimony of God. One moon gives more light than all the stars in the heavens. Similarly, one devotee of realization that this organization will produce is greater than thousands of persons who just read Scriptures and go to church once a week. So, be loyal in your activities and continuous in your habit of meditation.

Devotion is a deeply reverential admiration of God. It is characterized by an element of separation between the soul and Spirit. In love, there is a merging of the two into one. In devotion, your desire is not to establish oneness with God, but to keep your separate identity for the joy of standing apart and worshipping the Object of your adoration. The attitude of devotion is, "I am Thy son, and Thou art my Father"; or, "I am Thy lover, and Thou art my Beloved.", or, "I am Thy devotee, and Thou art my Lord." In this state, the devotee doesn't want to say or feel, "Thou and I are One," but rather, "I adore Thee." Even though liberation has been attained, the devotee is free to retain his individuality in order to enjoy, throughout this life and all eternity, the bliss of beholding God and worshipping Him with the offering of devotion.

This earth is a school, a motion-picture dream drama for your education and entertainment. Whether beholding a comedy or a tragedy in the movie theatre of this life, remember that it has no ultimate reality. Keep your consciousness attuned to the Lord, and say: "That was a great picture, but I have conquered its illusory power over me. I am not frightened by it, for You are with me always." That happiness in Spirit is the only thing to live for. Mediate each day; and when you have contacted that happiness, then go about your work. Without that inner awareness of God's joy, you cannot enjoy life - indeed, you are not even truly living.

How different your life would be if you saw things as the masters do! On this dark path of life, think how many people fear accidents and death. But as soon as you have correct thinking, there is no fear. Why should you fear sickness? The body is not you. So many of the fears and worries that beset you are based on faulty premises, because you cannot see what you really are. You have accepted the delusion that you are a body, subject to harm and eventual annihilation; and that is why you fear. If you know that you are Spirit nothing can hurt you. This understanding comes through meditation; and when it does, cessation of fear is instantaneous.

God loves devotion. If you have devotion, nothing can destroy your spiritual life; for in devotion you have the response of the Lord. There is such joy, such happiness. You do not have to run away from your duties. No matter how busy you are, still you have the time to say, "Lord, I love You." Sometimes when I am in the car, or in the thick of the crowds, everything will disappear and the light of the Lord will come; and He says: "I am here. I am everywhere; but most of all I am here within you." The ocean is immeasurably huge, but to each drop the ocean is intimate. The vast ocean encircles the globe, but the most important thing to each wave is the presence of the ocean right within it and behind it.

Death is the cessation of life's sorrows. It doesn't come as a punishment, but as a necessary end to our fleshly confinement, that we may leave this earth and travel in a freer state to higher realms. The body may be interred or consigned to ashes, but the soul is freed - it cannot anymore be subjected to the tortures of the body. Your spirit will say, "Well, for a long time I have had to worry about getting hurt and paying bills and all the other troubles of material life. Now that burdensome body under my care is gone, and I am free in the peace of this astral land and body of light." When you have earned freedom from the travails of this earth, be glad. But never seek death; when you do that, it shows you are afraid of life and are not learning its lessons. You will have to come back again and again until you do.
