SPE IIT-ISM STUDENT CHAPTER started its journey in the year 1984 and since then the chapter is committed to helping students learn more about the industry by offering the opportunity to network with company representatives, encouraging the exchange f ideas with others, and enhancing their knowledge through a plethora of educational events throughout the year. We were the first ever Indian Chapter

to be given SPE’s highest recognition, Outstanding Student Chapter Award, in 2010. The chapter has been awarded the Gold Standard Chapter award in 2011, 2012 and 2013

Our mission statement is to collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge and to provide opportunities students to enhance their technical and professional competence.

Fishbone Well Completion is a multilateral drilling technique where multiple short lateral branches are drilled outward from a main horizontal wellbore, resembling the bones of a fish when viewed from above.
This design increases the contact area between the wellbore and the reservoir, allowing fluids to flow in from a larger section of the formation. It is especially useful in low permeability or thin reservoirs, where a single horizontal well may not drain the area efficiently enough.
Engineers use fishbone completions to boost production rates, improve reservoir drainage, and reduce the number of wells needed to develop a field, making it a cost-effective option for maximizing recovery from challenging reservoirs.

This week, we're diving into Running Simulation Cases using CMG, exploring different reservoir development and operating scenarios to understand reservoir performance and optimize production strategies.

We, the SPE IIT(ISM) Student Chapter, are back with another edition of SPEctionary to kickstart
your week with a new petroleum engineering concept and some interesting learning.

This week’s keyword: Heel Toe Effect — a flow phenomenon in horizontal wells where the heel
receives a higher fluid inflow than the toe due to pressure losses along the wellbore, leading to
uneven reservoir drainage.
