Catch Paloma Canonica at Drukyul’s Festival of Literature and Arts

Swiss illustrator Paloma Canonica will be at the Drukyul’s Festival of Literature and Arts in Bhutan this August, leading a hands-on workshop and joining a conversation with a Thimphu Comics illustrator.

Yumna Al-Arashi is an artist, filmmaker, and writer whose practice explores the intersections of history, identity, and power. Through evocative visual storytelling, she reclaims forgotten narratives, confronts colonial legacies, and reimagines the representation of women, the Arab world, and the environment. Rooted in myth, memory, and resistance, her work bridges centuries-old traditions with the urgencies of the present.

This August, Yumna Al-Arashi will present two public conversations in India:

📍 1 August | 5:45–6:30 PM Image Worlds: Hybridity Bicentennial Symposium India International Centre, New Delhi Yumna will present Proposal for a War Memorial. Co-organised by PhotoSouthAsia and the Alkazi Foundation for the Arts.

📍 13 August | 3:00 PM Kochi Biennale Foundation – Let’s Talk Series School of Environment and Architecture, Mumbai.

Founded in Zürich in 2020 by Denizay Apusoglu and Jonas Kissling, Studio Eidola works at the intersection of material research and design. By collaborating with local industries and working with mineral waste and industrial by-products, the studio uncovers overlooked material histories and reimagines their future.

Through objects, spatial interventions, and alternative building materials, Studio Eidola challenges linear systems of production, proposing new narratives of reuse, transformation, and the evolving life of matter.

What happens when children’s imaginations inspire artists across borders?

LET ME DRAW YOU A STORY brings together illustrators from Switzerland, India, and Bhutan, creating new artworks inspired by children’s drawings based on extracts from Swiss children’s books.

The journey continues later this year as Swiss illustrators join the Drukyul’s Festival of Literature & Arts and the Bookaroo Children’s Literature Festival.

Presented by ThinkArts in partnership with the Embassy of Switzerland in India and Bhutan as part of the Sustainability with a Plus initiative.

Bandana Tulachan, an illustrator and picture-book author based in Kathmandu, Nepal, will travel to Switzerland for a research trip focused on the country’s contemporary children’s literature and picturebook illustration scene.

During the trip, she will visit institutions, universities, galleries, bookstores, and community spaces to better understand Swiss picturebook culture, illustration practices, publishing processes, and the collaborative networks that support the field.

Bandana is the author and illustrator of *Sanu and the Big Storm* and the illustrator of *Little People, Big Dreams: Tenzing Norgay*. Her work draws on the natural and cultural diversity of Nepal and combines traditional and digital techniques.

We’re delighted to announce the third edition of Connect India, a dual residency programme within Connect, the collaboration framework by Arts at CERN and Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia. Artists Marie Matusz () and Moonis Ahmad Shah ()have been selected to undertake a joint residency between CERN and the ICTS (International Centre for Theoretical Sciences), with support from Science Gallery Bengaluru .Connect India offers artists a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge scientific research in Geneva and Bengaluru, fostering new artistic perspectives by exposing artists to two unique scientific facilities and the fundamental research they conduct.

Pakistani digital artist and animator Iza Rizwan explores socio-political narratives, displacement, identity, and belonging through visual storytelling.

For her research project, Tracing Home, Iza will travel to Switzerland to examine the interconnected experiences of Afghan communities living between Pakistan and Switzerland. Through illustration, sound, archival research, photography, and experimental moving image, she will engage with artists, researchers, organizations, and members of the Afghan diaspora to gather stories and materials that will inform a future publication or exhibition.

The project reflects on migration, memory, and the meaning of home across borders and generations.

Sonic experimentation, q***r placemaking and electronic music production

In April, the four *FINTA DJ-producers selected for this year’s Circuit Mixers programme convened in Johannesburg, South Africa, for an eight-day residency facilitated by .biennale. The artists hosted workshops and showcased their music, took part in panel discussions and networking activities. They connected and exchanged with each other and Johannesburg’s electronic music and q***r communities.

Circuit Mixers is a networking programme by to support *FINTA DJ-producers from Switzerland and the regions of its liaison offices. The artists will meet again for residencies at in Switzerland and in India later this year.

Hemali Sodhi is the founder of A Suitable Agency, a literary and brand consulting agency representing Indian writers and authors. Prior to founding the agency, she worked in publishing, brand marketing, and communications at a global publishing house.

Hemali Sodhi is also the editor of The Book of Dog, and has a keen interest in crime fiction, food, travel, and Calvin and Hobbes. Hemali will be on a research trip to Switzerland.
