This is the second time in five years that Mercy For Animals has uncovered serious animal abuse connected to Costco’s chicken supply chain.

In 2021, publicly promised reform. Our new undercover investigation reveals that was a lie. Five years later, Costco still has not adopted meaningful, enforceable animal welfare standards across its chicken supply chain.

Historic progress for ducks and geese in Brazil! 🇧🇷 🦆 Today, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed Bill 90/2020 into law, banning the production and sale of foie gras in Brazil!⁠

⁠Mercy For Animals worked alongside coalition partners, lawmakers, and advocates to advance this important legislation. Together, we mobilized supporters to send more than 1 million messages to decision-makers, built public support across Brazil, and helped turn compassion for ducks and geese into strong legal protections.⁠

Did you know? India was the first country to ban foie gras by prohibiting its import and effectively ending domestic production. Now, Brazil has become the second country to ban foie gras, and the first to do so through nationwide legislation, marking another historic milestone for animals. 💙

Foie gras is produced by repeatedly force-feeding ducks and geese through a tube shoved down their throats until their livers become severely enlarged and diseased. For many years, animals have suffered for a product marketed as a “luxury.” But today, Brazil chose compassion instead.⁠

This victory belongs to every supporter who spoke up, every partner who stood with us, and every lawmaker who was on the right side of history and voted to protect animals.⁠ A huge congratulations to the Mercy For Animals Brasil team and everyone who made this historic victory possible!
